Roger Williams Hospital
I had my surgery yesterday morning and aside from my surgeon, and the anesthetic team and 1 nurse....the experiance was horrible. I felt truely left behind as the nursing staff had no clue how to help me with my pain....or answer any questions that I had. I seemed to know more about it then they did. I felt very unsafe. The lack of communication was scary and I am glad to be home. This is to say nothing bad about Dr Phol or the other staff involved in the surgery...it was the after care that worried me. I seemed to be more a bother than a patient and to them, drugging me up was easier than taking me for a walk of helping me to move around, or making sure I was coughing or breathing right. Im glad to be home.
Jennifer,
I'm sorry to hear about your time at the hospital. I worked in a hospital for 12 years and got out of the medical field because I was tired of working with unhappy people. There are two types of nursing staff.....the ones who always wanted to nurture people as they grew up and then there were the ones that were simply smart enough to get through nursing school and had absolutely no bed side manner! It happens in every hospital (unfortunately). I had a few issues myself when I was in the hospital after surgery. I pretty much kept to myself and got up and walked myself around. They never asked me if I wanted to wash up or if I was breathing okay or if I was in pain. When I got home, Roger Williams sent me a questionaire in the mail. I answered and commented on everyone that I came into contact with. They need to know this sort of stuff. I hope you're feeling better now and I'm glad that your safe and at home now!
Take care

reading this late sorry....
That sucks so bad that you didn't have a good experience with the hospital. I have to say that it isn't always the case. I had a very good one there. The nurses I had were there when I needed them. MY only issue was my neighbors family. They were horrible. I got out of bed on my own most of the time but that was only because I hate asking for help. Unfortunantly you ended up with a bunch of people to busy to give a damn about you. I am glad your home though and hopefuly feeling better. I have been a patient at a few other hospitals in RI and I have to say the pain meds. were never on time and in my opinion never enough. This was the first surgery I have ever had where I wasn't in pain afterwards.
Wishing you the best....
Shannon
