I'm Home
I came home on Friday, the 5th and spent one week in the hospital. I had an open procedure which went very well. After the fourth day in the hospital I was restless to come home but they insisted on keeping me because I was getting headaches at night. Now I feel absolutely wonderful. My staples are still in and I have to keep reminding myself I just undewent major surgery cause I want to do everything and have no pain. I'm doing the pureed foods and those are going well. I bought Isopure and have been sipping on that throughout the day and so far with the exception of some nausea and dry heaves in the hospital, I think my progress has been amazing, so much more than I expected. I can't believe I actually have to stay out of work for weeks, I think I'll be getting really bored. Would like to hear from the others who went at my time, are you guys around?
Hi Jackie!
Welcome home! I got home on friday too. I ended up having it done laproscopically. Did you have complications during surgery? I'm only doing the shakes and clear fluids....too afraid to do pureed just yet. However, I did purchase a scale today and I'm already down 10 pounds! I think it's amazing how well I feel. It's like I'm waiting for something bad to happen but it hasn't! (knock on wood)
I had a fever in the hospital for a day but people say that's normal. My oxygen was a bit low too but other than that I was up and running the hallways the entire time I was there. I hope things are going okay with you. Keep an eye on those staples! Look for redness, swelling and discharge and take your temperature at least 2 times a day!
Take care

Enjoy your time home...how often do we get this much time to just take care of our own needs? It sounds like you are going to do great. It's been 1 yr since I had my surgery...I'm almost jealous of you guys just starting out and how exciting it is......well, not really.. hee hee
I have done well, but I don't excersise like I should, just joined Bally's and I'm going to do better.
I'll be thinking of you........take care.
Jackie,
So glad you're doing well! I went in on Monday, the 1st, had lap RNY, but had to have an open g-tube done on Wednesday due to some leakage, so I was in until Wednesday, the 10th. Had a visit to the ER on Friday the 12th, (I apparently have a urinary tract infection), but am finally starting to see some energy day-to-day. So far no food issues, I'm on soft/pureed and tolerating everything well. I've been thinking about you since the pre-op meeting, but didn't really feel like getting out on-line until today.
Hope you continue to feel great!
Jackie
Jackie,
Hi! Nice to hear from you! Glad to hear you're feeling better! I've been doing great, am bored silly being home. I see Dr. Harrington this Thursday and am hoping to be released for work the following Monday. I find that I can't eat a whole lot, I look at that sheet that we got giving us what we should be eating after a month and I don't come anywhere near the volume of food. I don't really have an appetite. I've moved on to soft solids and still nothing seems appealing. How is your eating? As far as weight, I seem stuck at the 32 pound mark, can't seem to move past it, and I'm trying not to feel discouraged but it's hard.
Will you be attending the support group at the hospital on Wednesday night? I hope to see you there!
Jackie
Hi,
I was planning to attend this week's meeting, but not sure now. I became dehydrated over the past few days, and ended up in the ER on Sunday morning. Feeling better, but still very weak and wiped out.
I saw Dr. H. last Thursday, and they removed my G-tube (hooray!). I agree with you - I'm not even close to eating what they say we should be getting at this stage. I'm now on "soft" foods but except for a scrambled egg, I have no desire for much of anything. Currently down 38-39 lbs, but I'm actually a little scared that it's coming off too aggressively, and leaving me wiped out. I'm going to call Dr. H. today to report what happened over the weekend, and see if there's anything I should be doing to bounce back from the dehydration.
If I don't see you on Wednesday, perhaps in January!
Jackie
