Hi! New To RI
Hello everyone,
I am almost 4 months post-op Lap RNY. I've recently moved to Cranston, RI. from CT. I have been driving almost 2 hours to get to support group meetings in CT.. so I was wondering, are there any support group meetings in this area? I'd love to attend some. There's always new stuff to learn and new people to inspire you.
Any information would be appreciated.
Take care,
Michelle
Hi Michelle,
We have awesome meetings at Rhode Island Hospital, typically on the first Wednesday night of the month, at 6:00. The meetings are held in the Gerry House, which is actually behind the main building.
Upcoming meeting dates are: October 6, November 3, December 1, January 5.
The group consists of patients from RIH and Roger Williams, as well as patients from other states, such as yourself. Dr. Roye, the best surgeon in the world (in my hunble opinion) comes to all of the meetings. There's also a nutritionist and an opportunity to buy foods and supplements.
The group has a walking team for events like the Breast Cancer Walk, etc. And, we've just officially become a non-profit organization, so things can only get better.
If you need directions, just let me know.
Jen
Welcome to RI!
In addition to the support group at RI Hospital, there is also a meeting on the third Thursday of each month at Roger Williams Hospital. Dr. Pohl, the surgeon who operates at that hospital begins the group with questions, etc, and then turns it over to a facilitator. This month's meeting is tomorrow night, in the Kay auditorium of Roger WIlliams Hospital. The meetings begin at 6:00 and run until 7:30. I hope you will join us, there are plenty of folks there who are not patients of Dr. Pohl.
Welcome again to RI, and I hope to see you and get to know a new friend.
