Dr. Pohl's seminar
Wow...
I went to Dr. Pohl's seminar tonight. I was very impressed with his personality, sense of humor, his honesty, and patience with the group. He was a bit surprised to see so many people (over 100 attended!). I just wanted to thank everyone here in the forum for answering all of my questions recently. You've all been a great help to me! I think I'm going with Dr. Pohl for the by-pass. He is taking patients for December and January though I don't think I'll get in there that quickly. I know some people have said that they had some of their tests done at other places throughout the state but from what I'm getting from Dr. Pohl, he would rather we have the tests done through his referrals (which is fine by me). I was also happy to hear that he has performed over 400 surgeries! I'm going to try and attend the support meeting next week. I'm anxious to see and hear more from his patients.

I am so gald you were able to attend. I remember when I went to that seminar, there were A LOT of people there. I was really shocked at how many showed up. It's pretty cool that your going with Dr. Phol but either doctor you choose I know you will be happy. If there is one thing that makes me happy I live in such a small state it has to be that there aren't many WLS doctor's here. I think it makes it better for us because there aren't a million to choose from and you get honest opinions from all of their patients. I think it makes it easier not to make a istake with an unknown surgeon.
About your comment on doing the tests with his referals. I don't know about anyone else but I went with every single person on that sheet that he refered me to. I am not one for calling people who have no idea what I am talking about. I think it made my journey much easier knowing that I was talking to people who've already dealt with Dr. Phol and with Dr. Phol's patients.
I hope to see you at next weeks support meeting. It would be real great to get to meet you. My hubby is coming with me again but if he didn't that wouldn't be bad because i met great people last time and I already feel at ease there.
Good luck with everything....

Hi Megan,
I was also at the seminar. I went there to support my friend who is looking to have the bypass. I was going to have the bypass but found out when I had the endoscopy that I had stomach cancer(Dr. Pohl actually mentioned that last night during his speech). So most of my stomach was removed but my intestine wasn't bypassed. Anyway...Iam rambling...what I wanted to say was EVERY person I encountered during my pre-op testing couldn't say enough about how great Dr. Pohl was. Like he said last night, he is brutally honest which is so important! Best wishes with your journey. Hope to see you at the support group meeting Thursday!! Lisa
Megan,
I am home from my surgery. I feel fine, just tired. I went to other doctors simply because I had already had a sleep study done twice and Dr. Pohl wanted another because he wants all test to be less than 6 months old and the same for the endoscopy. All of these doctors had mentioned that they have worked with Dr. Pohl before. I spent the 10 months reading and researching the surgery both pros and cons. I also made one appointment went to it and then made another appointment. If I had to do it over I would just make all the appointments at once.
Take care
Pat
