How long?
I think it depends on what type of surgery you have and with which Dr. For me I had Lap RNY with Dr. Roye and he told me I could shower on the 3rd day (which felt so good!!) and I was allowed to drive as long as I wasn't taking painkillers. Personally I felt to worn out to do much driving until it was almost a week after surgery. It was little uncomfortable with the suspension in my car bouncing my insides around but after about a week and a half I was driving all over.
You should ask your doctor what his thoughts on the matter are, if not they usually tell you in the hospital before going home.
Good luck,
Megan
Hi Pat,
I thank goodness was able to shower before I left the hospital. My surgery was done lap. I was not restricted for driving as long as I was not taking any pain killers. The first time I drove, I was glad that I planned a short trip, because I was pooped by the time I was done.
Double check with your surgeon... he knows best.
Good Luck (and welcome home)!
