Dr. Nip
Dear Mary
I realize you have alot of emotions you like to share about this surgery and stir up the boards because of your daughters failed operation. Please can you understand that this surgery for many of us is a hard and very personal journey. Your adding all these negative suggestions about the R.I. doctors it's no help to anyone. I suggest you seek professional help to help work out some of your feelings.

My daughter feels a lot worse than I do about her surgery. She almost died. I was only asking who the doctor was because I used to work at RI hospital. My daughters surgery was not a failed surgery. It was a botched up surgery. Perforations are caused by error. My daughter has post traumatic stess disorder and will for the rest of her life from all of this.
well well mrs smith again we pop on the board to bash ri doctors this dr if it was ri hospital would be either dr harrington or dr roye i for one am getting sick and tired of your constant bashing of weight loss surgery and local ri hospitals if you did work for a ri hospital like you say then you know with any surgery there can be complications as well as a chance of death especially for obese people with severe health risks this is the last time i will look at any of your posts as they are nothing but negative these drs and operations have helped many people get on to a healthy path and lifestyle and i for one think it is terrible that you post like you do a new person searching or looking into this surgery will be scared away right off the bat with out looking further inth the operation when people like you do nothing but post negatively at first you did nothing but bash the lap band surgery now your moving on i see to g-bypass aqll i can say is any one *****ads your post has to really read between the lines and make their own choice and put aside a negative person such as yourself .......davet
I don't know the history of Mary, or her daughter, but as someone who is scheduled to have surgery (and a gallbladder removal) in August, I have to agree with the others.
This is a huge decision, which is very personal and deeply emotional. It has taken many of us a very long time to get to a place emotionally to even consider the surgery and this board has always been a place of solace.
FYI - It was NOT Dr. Roye who was performing the surgery (although he was asked for a comment, since he performs the surgery so frequenlty).
Addiitonally, I suspect we would all agree that any type of major surgery is a risk. And we're all very well prepared by the hospital staff about the risks involved.
Finally, the gentleman who passed away was elderly, which adds another risk factor.
I agree that this was a very unfortunate incident. The family of this man have been in my prayers, as have the doctors, who have to deal with generalizations and accusations from the uninformed.

I am informed as much as you are regarding this unfortunate incident at RIH. I can read the newspaper and it did state that Dr. Roye did not do the surgery. The patient didn't have WLS infact if you did read the article he indeed did have gallbladder removal surgery by Lap. I am just curious as who did do that particular surgery. It had nothing to do with bashing any surgeon in RI although there are some Bariatric surgeons who do have privileges to do other types of surgery in other RI hospitals. If you have done your research you would have known that. My daughter had no health problems other than obesity when she went into surgery and it still had a bad outcome. I guess you who have had this surgery have been fortunate and I am happy for that but everyone who is considering this surgery should know what happened and rethink it.
