Hey there!
Hey everyone,
I am new to the site (well, kind of) I have been reading about wls for the last year after my fathers decision to have the surgery with Dr. Roye. He had the surgery 6 months ago and is doing wonderfully. We call him the energizer bunny. I have been overweight my whole life. In the last five years I have gone up at least 1 pant size a year. I have been on a diet for as long as I can remember. About 2 months ago I asked my doctor about setting up a consult with Dr. Roye. Today I had my first consult with Dr. Roye. He and his assistant Helen were wonderful, they were very informative and answered all of my questions. I was hoping to get some feedback from anyone who is a patient of Dr. Roye. I was also hoping to find some people in my age range (i'm 19, 20 in April) who have had the surgery or are hoping to. Thanks a bunch! -Em
Hey megan,
Thanks for your response. I was reading that your insurance covered you in just 3 days. I have the same insurance as you so I am glad to hear that they seem to be pretty speedy. How long after your approval did it take for u to get a date?
P.S. I also noticed that Dr. Roye is running at least 30 mins late!
Thanks again!

Emily,
Healthmate seems to be a good insurance about quickly approving the surgery. My co-worker who has the same insurance is in the process of getting the surgey with Dr. Roye. She saw him in the beginning of June and got the approval letter about a week later.
The way Dr. Roye does it is when they receive the approval from the insurance they mail out a packet of testing information to you with a lot of the dates all ready set and then the phone numbers to call on the rest. Testing can take a few months depending on how able you are to be flexible with your schedule. The sleep study seems to take the longest from my own experience and from what I have heard from others. You have to make an appointment to see the sleep specialist doctor which takes about a month to get into see and then at that appointment he will set you up with 2 sleep studies which again book about a month out. My co-worker called in June to see him and they gave her a September appointment. For me I asked for the first available no matter which office, so I ended up seeing him in Middletown (about an hour from where I live). Same thing with the sleep study. I told them I would take the first one no matter which hospital and was lucky enough to get an appointment someone cancelled a week later, but again I had to go to Newport Hospital to do that.
Dr. Roye gives you a surgery date once you have completed all your testing. He usually sees you about a week or 2 once you call to say you finished them all.
So for me I started testing the first week of August and finished the first week of October, with being very flexible. I had my follow-up visit with Dr.Roye on October 10th and at that time was given a surgery date of November 4th.
Hope this info helps! Keep us posted about your approval!

P.S. Ugh! Still running a half hour behind is he? I fixed that problem when I started making all my appointments for 9am on the Mondays he is in Warwick and I am always on time. I am dreading this Friday because due to a day in the ER on Monday due to severe stomach pain he wants to see me in the Providence office on Friday at 10:30am. I have to leave work and then go back afterwards and I just know I'll be sitting in that waiting room watching the clock and freaking out! LOL.
I hear ya...I waited for hours at my last visit and I ended up being the last patient and didn't get out of there until after 6 PM. Next time I made the appt for early AM, but I've tried that also and was nervous as a cat because I was so late for work. Oh well, it's worth it for what we have had done, right???? He's a busy guy.
