Help, Psych eval, a joke...
Hi All, I am looking for some suggestions, my mom went to have her psych eval with the psychiatrist today and he told her that he did not feel she was strong enough to have the surgery, that she needs to show him determination. First he does not know my mom nor does he know the determination that she has when she wants something bad enough. My mom has her consult with Dr. Pohl on the 28th. I told her to go to the consult, and she has to meet with psychiatrist again in july. Any suggestions on how she can prove to this quack that she has determination and that she can deal with the stress at work (the only place she has stress)? I, too, have already had the surgery, my psych eval was not as lengthy, I tried to find her the phone number to Dena Carlone the doctor that I went to, but I could not find it. If anyone has this number could they email it to me at [email protected]. Should she get a second opinion or just wait and see what Dr. Pohl has to say? Please help with any suggestions.... I just want my mom to feel better about herself mentally and physically. At this point this is the only doctor holding her back from having surgery....
Thanks for any suggestions...
Melissa
Sounds like she hasn't expressed her desire to have this surgery in the right words. She probably would need to let this Doc know that she needs this surgery to carry on with her life. She wants to feel young again. She missed out on many of lifes pleasures. She wants to be around for grandchildren, wants to play with them. Hopefully this helps. Talk to you later.

Melissa,
I hated my psych eval. Dena Carlone is no longer doing those evals. Let me tell you, I am a nurse, a tough cookie overall, normally decent person , when I had that psych eval, first of all I wasn't expecting it to be 3 1/2 hours long. I made the mistake of saying I hated bridges (and I do, we all have our little things like flying), well, the psychiatrist says..hmmmmm, you really need to address your bridge phobia.
Melissa, it took all I had to bite my tongue, and I turned around and said "IT'S ONE LESS PLACE FOR ME TO DRIVE TO GET FOOD".
I would have your mom go for a second opinion. Maybe she was a bit intimidated, I was that's for sure.
I told Dr Pohl that I thought the psych exam was a little ridiculous and over the top. I completely agree with the fact the patient should be in good mental condition, but I also believe that the evaluation should be done with the weight loss issues in mind.
JMHO,
Stephanie
Good luck
