Hi all, We'll it's been a long road, but I am finally doing my sleep study this Friday night. I finished all of the other tests back in April, so it feels like I've been waiting forever! I am a patient of Dr. Roye's and at the support group meeting there seemed to be a lot of people who are "waiting for a date". I am just wondering, for those of you who have Dr. Roye - how long was the wait between finishing all of your testing and your surgery date. Thanks! Jen

Hi Jen, I actually am a patient of Dr. Harrington's. But if I hear something, I will let you know. Did these people have their meeting with him at the conclusion of all tests? I know that this is what Dr. Harrington does and then will schedule from there. Denise

Denise, Yes, that's the way Dr. Roye does it, too. Once you've finished everything and done the blood work, then you call his office to begin the final stretch. My kids are home for the summer and we have vacation plans, etc. It would be great to know even an range of how long people are waiting for a surgery date, so I can try to plan. I don't want to miss that call when it comes! Thanks, Jen

I am a patient of Dr. Roye's. I called to make my appointment as soon as I finished my last test (which is the blood/urine test). I was given an appointment date for a week and a half after that. At that appointment he went over all my test results and gave me a surgery date for the following month. My appointment was on October 10, 2003 and my surgery was November 4, 2003. So less than a month. From what I have gotten from other patients of his is that it is usually from 2 weeks to a month after that appointment. In between you go to the preop seminar that has the dietician, nurses, etc at it. One word of caution though when trying to plan things. About your sleep study, is this the first one? If you have sleep apnea they will have you go to a second one and then after the study(ies) are done you still have to meet with the sleep doctor. For me that was the most time consuming piece, waiting for appointments for all that(and I only had to do one sleep study). Hopefully it wouldn't take to long for you. Good luck! Dr. Roye is the best and he changed my life in such a great way!! Megan

Megan, Thanks for the reply! Yes, this is my first sleep study and I am hopeful that it will be my one and only, but time will tell. Congrats on the success that you've been having - I can't wait for the day I can shop and have to keep getting a smaller size Jen

Megan is correct. I went for my first sleep study May of 2003. My followup could not be scheduled before July 20-something, despite calling every sleep center in the US it seemed. Then I finally got a call for a cancellation in mid-June. Put yourself on the cancellation lists. Although I got my sleep studies done, it was a long wait for an appointment with the sleep specialist. Still, the cancellation moved me up about a month. I had my final appointment with Dr Roye the first week in August. My surgery was scheduled for 5 weeks later. All in all that was nearly 3 months after completing the testing. Let me say, though, it is well worth the frustrating wait. Dr Roye did a fabulous job. I was only in the hospital 40 hours total. My surgery was performed on September 16, 2003. In the 8 1/2 months since I have lost 150lbs. I'm now just 30 lbs from my "impossible dream" goal weight. All my labs are perfect. I wouldn't change a thing. Laury
