lap band abcess
My daughter had her lap band surgery at Roger Williams Med. Ctr. and it turned out to be a horrible situation. One day after her surgery she developed a fever and three days later they had to take out the band . It took 2 hours with a 105 temp and dr. said she had a abcess at the site of the band caused by infection , dirty OR?? She is still at home and cannot work for 3 months. She still has the drain in her and she had to have a cat scan today to see if the abcess is gone. Dr. said it could come back. She has been through so much pain and suffering. She said she was so sick she wanted to die. If anyone is considering this procedure please think twice about it.
Wow!!! I attended an informational seminar on Thursday at Roger Wheeler, and this sure helps to explain why Dr. Pohl seemed so negative about the band. The concensus is that 100 bands is the magic number for optimum sucess in banding. Since he has only done 35 bands, I guess he is still learning...think I'll wait awhile until he has the procedure down or find a more experienced surgeon for banding. My prayers are with your daughter...the extemes we go to in order to take control of the obesity monster!
this is Cheryles mom again. I understand that these surgerons who learn how to do this laprascopic surgery watch a video tape and that's how it is learned. Cheryle after speaking with the surgeon again had a perforation. From what doctor dosen't know. I hope no other patient ever has to go through what Cheryles has been through. Also she could have problems with her stomach for the rest of her life never mind post traumtic stess disorder from this ordeal. If anyone is thinking of having this procedure done please think twice!!!!
Thank you Christy for your concern about Cheryle. She is doing OK. Her stomach is still swollen but she will be seeing her regular doctor tomorrow. She seems to be the only person I can find on this forum who had a problem as bad as hers. I had forgotten to put down about her vomititing fresh blood a few hours after her surgery. She told the nurse and nurse told her it was from the tube that was down her throat. It should have looked in to right away as Cheryle had a perforation and almost died.
