UPDATE ON DEATH OF EMILY REYES
Hi everyone, I read this message board all the time too.. I hardly post because I am new at all this my surgery was nov. 17 2003 so I am still learning.. anyway I live in Ri also and I have Dr. Harrington (who Emily Had) and I felt so so awful to hear of her death but me too thought it was kind of strange (but how do I know) so I've checked the Providence Journal for her death notice and found NOTHING>>> I wanted to send something with my regards or something. so I never saw her death notice then I thought something wasnt right.. so I am so glad to hear she is doing well and congratulate her on her pregnancy... Good luck Emily.. and thanks so much for clearing this horrible post up for us Susan

I also felt bad i had kept up with her postings, until Joanne K made me aware that she didn't die & was making it all up to get back at her Doctor..; Living here is R I my husband & i had checked the newspapers & there was never a write up about her..So i knew something wasn't right... this girl needs IMMEDIATE HELP, I really feel for her kids...
When I read that post, I searched the Providence Journal for obituaries and there were none at all for Emily Reyes or any Reyes (or any Emily, for that matter). Not to mention that the post was supposedly posted by her sister, but how would her sister know Emily's password to log into this site?
I've seen this sort of thing on the internet before and had my suspicions. It was just a little too coincidental that this 31 (?) year old woman would die of unspecified obesity-related causes within days of being told she wasn't a candidate for surgery.
I've become jaded and I sensed this was a bitter person striking out and trying to hurt Dr. Harrington's reputation. Seemed counterproductive to me since the reason she gave for her denial was her psych evaluation of compulsive eating, so that could have been something she could have overcome or gotten a second opinion on - but not if she's "dead"!
Thanks for telling us the true story. I had my suspicions but it would have seemed callous or uncharitable to voice them.
You know...call me heartless, but when I read the post about the supposed death the only person I felt bad for was Dr. Harrington. He was/is my surgeon, and would never turn anyone down unless there was a reason. He should never have been "blamed".
I don't believe for a minute that someone other than Emily Reyes posted that post. She sounds like she needs mental help, and she was extremely angry with Dr. H, and from the sounds of it I wouldn't put it past her.
There are sick people in this world...even on the message board.
