My Journey Took a Different Turn
Well...where do I begin?? My appointment to see Dr. Pohl to get my surgery date was yesterday, but things haven't gone as I planned. I found out last monday that during my Endoscopy they found a gastric tumor that tested positive for cancer. This past week has been the worst week of my life. Lots of testing, scans, scopes, blood work, etc. But to make a very long story short...I think I'm going to be OK. I have a carcinoid tumor and they think they got it all. I went to an oncologist yesterday and I have a bunch more tests this week, but they think they got it all!! I am lucky that I picked Dr. Pohl to be my surgeon. He makes the Endoscopy a requirement before surgery(thank god). And because he does they found this early enough to be treated. Dr. Pohl did tell me yesterday that I couldn't have the gastric bypass but I could try the band. Then I saw the oncologist and he said part of my stomach will have to be removed anyway..so it'll kind of be like a bypass. Hopefully I won't need chemo. But if I do that's fine because IAM GOING TO LIVE. I was so afraid that I wouldn't see all of my children's firsts! God gave me a second chance!! Thanks for listening! Lisa
Hi Joanne,
Thanks for caring. It has been a scary time but I'm ok now. I am so happy for you and your very close surgery date. We'll still be having surgery around the same time, mine will just be a little different. You must be so excited! It sounds like you have a great family support system too! You'll be in that size 12/14 before you know it!! I'll be thinking of you! Lisa
