My Journey Took a Different Turn

Well...where do I begin?? My appointment to see Dr. Pohl to get my surgery date was yesterday, but things haven't gone as I planned. I found out last monday that during my Endoscopy they found a gastric tumor that tested positive for cancer. This past week has been the worst week of my life. Lots of testing, scans, scopes, blood work, etc. But to make a very long story short...I think I'm going to be OK. I have a carcinoid tumor and they think they got it all. I went to an oncologist yesterday and I have a bunch more tests this week, but they think they got it all!! I am lucky that I picked Dr. Pohl to be my surgeon. He makes the Endoscopy a requirement before surgery(thank god). And because he does they found this early enough to be treated. Dr. Pohl did tell me yesterday that I couldn't have the gastric bypass but I could try the band. Then I saw the oncologist and he said part of my stomach will have to be removed anyway..so it'll kind of be like a bypass. Hopefully I won't need chemo. But if I do that's fine because IAM GOING TO LIVE. I was so afraid that I wouldn't see all of my children's firsts! God gave me a second chance!! Thanks for listening! Lisa

Sorry to hear about your trials this last week. How strong you are to face this and find something positive in it. Good for you for remaining positive. I will be praying for you that you see lots of your kids "firsts". Peace,Jeanne

Hi Joanne, Thanks for caring. It has been a scary time but I'm ok now. I am so happy for you and your very close surgery date. We'll still be having surgery around the same time, mine will just be a little different. You must be so excited! It sounds like you have a great family support system too! You'll be in that size 12/14 before you know it!! I'll be thinking of you! Lisa

Lisa, You are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this trying time. I have heard nothing but bad news about cancer around me in the past week. You are strong and sound very positive. Know full well you will be in my prayers daily. Mary
