I am at a complete loss my insurance wont approve my surgery without a list of co-mobilities and proof of all the various work ups. The office of Dr Roy is giving me the run around and not responding to questions. What do I do now my insurance quoted me they tried to talk with the doctor and it was said he could not come to the phone and he never replied back to my insurances phone call. So I was denied based on lack of information. Now I love Dr Roy he is awesome is it just the staff or am I doing something wrong. I have to write a letter of appeal now and Im so depressed. Any advice Kimberly(kim)

Kim, A lot of people are having problems with the staff at Drs. Roye and Harrington's office. They are rude and inconsiderete of WLS patients. Honestly, you have a battle with them but what you have to do is fight. Call them often, bug them. They need a flame put under their a**! Don't give up! Remember this is your life, so fight like you never have before. Good luck on your journey. I hope you get them to fax in those papers. I don't know what their problem is. Joanne

Kim I feel for you I know where you are coming from .. It took me almost 2 years to get an approval.. Dr Harrington's staff is and I hear Dr Roye's staff as well, are very rude .. Rude beyond the core.. I remember one day I called the office like 5 times till I finally spoke to someone about how my aprroval was going and I believe it was Vicki whom I spoke to and she was soooooooo rude I wanted to go down there and say something.. Well needless to say she was fired from what I hear. Anyway Kim you have to fight till you can not fight anymore.. I have been there and back and trust me FIGHT! You can e mail me if you would like and maybe I could help you in some way... Please promise me you will fight and not give up! [email protected] e mail me there ... Reyes722 is my aol instant message name.. Good Luck! Emily

Dear Emily Thanks for making me feel better. I just dont get the rudeness they would go so much further with a smile or friendly tone. I've got to search my thoughts on all of this. Tonight I was suppose to go for my sleep study and they just cancelled the tech called in sick ....so now its 2nd week of Dec. I still need to find a dietician I just dont know if I should use the one the doctor refers or one here in Ct. My insurance is the military and I was sent to RI by them. I just loved the doctor he is so kind ....Anyways thanks for the info.......It really did make me feel better

He's a good doctor, too, Kim, and RI Hopsital took very good care of me. I felt safe there. If something does go wrong they do have every specialist under the sun right there, every machine, every hope, you know? Dr Roye uses his own OR staff and they are very experienced in morbidly obese patients. After surgery we go to the step-down unit of the ICU and you are treated like a queen. I mentioned my bed seemed too short and my nurse immediately ordered a new bed for me. I mean new, still in the wrappings! Ohhhh it was soo comfy compared to the old. Way too soon we are shipped out of the ICU to our rooms, but they are brand new rooms. First class all the way! Yes, the staff at the office can be difficult. But in the end it's worth sticking it out. My insurance company ended up backing out at 5pm the day before my surgery. Dr Roye was my knight in shining armor, on the phone with the hospital billing office and insurance battling for me between his other surgeries that day. In the end I had my surgery at 6pm, but it happened. Everything went great. In the end I'm sure I'll prevail with my insurer, but what really matters is that my health has improved dramatically and so has my energy. Definitely the best thing I ever did for myself.
