Question for post op patients of Dr. Roye

Hi, I am a patient of Dr. Roye and I have completed all my testing. I called to make an appointment to go over the results which will be on Oct.10th. I was hoping that other patients of Dr.Roye could tell me if he normally gives you a surgery date on the follow up visit. Also after all the testing is done is there anything to do before the surgery (ie, more bloodwork, visiting the hospital for a tour, etc)? I'm also wondering how long Dr. Roye keeps you in the hospital once you've had the surgery. Any info would be greatly appriecated!! Thanks, Megan

Hi Megan, I just had the surgery Sept 16. You're going to be in great hands! Yes, Dr Roye booked my surgery himself when I went for that post-testing appointment. I'd suggest when you call Annette to book it that you ask her if all your test results have come in. If not, try to get them there before your appointment. You have one final appointment after that one, a 2 1/2 hour group appointment at a conference room in the Co-op building with a team that prepares you for surgery. The nutritionist is there, someone from physical therapy, a surgical nurse and a nurse from the third floor in the Co-op building, where most of Dr Roye's patients recuperate. You're given a written diet and everything that may happen to you in the hospital is explained in detail. The length of stay varies by patient. I had my surgery at 6pm on a Tuesday and was released on Thursday at 11am. I didn't go home for a few hours, though, I waited for my 3pm pain meds, and my nurse had to teach my husband how to administer my injections. When I left another patient who had her surgery the same morning was not going home, but a third one was. There was some confusion on the day of my surgery so Dr Roye did 3 surgeries, not his usual two. Also, my surgery was done lap. I also found out at that pre-op appointment that if you are on meds you should go over exactly how you should take them before surgery when you go to your next appointment with Dr Roye. The order you have your surgery depends on what medications you're on. I wasn't on any, so I knew I'd be going last. Diabetics go first. Good luck! I feel great and I'm losing weight like crazy. I have no regrets at all so far.
