New Here
Hello everyone. I am new to this board. I took the first steps today and went to see my PCP. I wrote down all my ocncerns and he went over everything with me. He gave me a referal and I will be calling the surgeon in the am. I was so nervous about what my doctor was going to say. I kept thinking he was going to tell me no, I couldn't have the surgery. He said it coudl take up to 8 months with al the testing etc they will have to do. I figure, I have been overweight for 21 years, what's another 8 months. After it is all said and done it won't seem like I waited long at all.
I also called my insurance company last week to see if they cover the surgery. At first the lady on the other end told me no. I hung up the phone and sobbed. About 5 mins later the phone rang and it was "the lady". She told me that she read more of what ever it was she was looking at and it said providing the doctor/suregon fills the paper work out correclty that they would cover it. I was elated.
Today my PCP told me that they require a BMI of over 50. He said a few other things but I was in a blur so I only remember some of it. He said one thing he has never said to me. He told me to go for it, he wished me luck and evern smiled at me. I don't think that man has smiled in forever. It was a good feeling.
Tomorrow I make the appt. I hope the wait to see this doctor isn't as long as it was for my gyno.
Shannon-
Actually I got a referal from my doctor. He refered me to Dr Phol. However they aren't taking anyone until May. I am now looking for a doctor I can get an appt. with much sooner. If it takes that long it won't be for another 16 or so months that I can even think about getting the surgery. Does anyone know of any doctors in RI who are taking patients now, or even before January???
Thanks
