Hi,

I need to switch up my protein shakes.  I really like the peach mango from the Dr's office, however, I find it quite expensive.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to which kind to try and where to purchase inexpensive, nutrional protein shakes?

Thanks,
Cjuni

Congrats on your surgery & welcome to the Loser's Bench! I've been using powdered protein...EAS Chocolate (23g protein) from BJ's and Costco's Vanilla (made my Muscle Milk, 27g protein)...I'll use plain water or Crystal Light Orange w/the Vanilla, and I also use cold decaf coffee w/1/2 scoop of each w/an ounce of SF Ice Cream to make a "frozen latte"...the bags are $23-27 (5-6# & 75-80 servings), so the they are quite cost effective. Costco also has a "Premier" brand pre-made chocolate shake 11oz, 30g protein that is quite good...15 pack for around $25 I think.

You can also find a lot of stuff on-line, just google protein shakes...tons of options....I'm waiting till I finish what I have before buying more! LOL

Hope that helps!

Hello

If you go to Netrition.com the shipping is always $5 no matter what you order.  They have a product called Anywhey.  Its unflavored.  I mix it with decaf coffee in the morning.  I have also used it in s/f pudding.  I find it dissolves better than any other unflavored products that I have tried.

I also like the Nectar products.  I really like the chocolate truffle.  I mix a scoop with about 4 oz water and add it to decaf coffee or s/f hot chocolate.

Hope that helps!

 Thank you Chrissy,

I have checked out the websites that have been suggested and now it is a matter of what and how much I choose to purchase.  Having choices and resources adds much more variety and I am very grateful for this.

Peace!

Hello,
I was told by the doctor I needed to loss 30 pounds before he would even consider doing my surgery. I saw the dietitian and got some suggestions on shakes. One that stuck out was ISO PURE Zero Carb Vanilla 100% Pure whey protein isolate. They also make a Low Carb Chocolate. Each shake you make 2 scoops gives you 50grams of protein. I started using them as a breakfast replacement in middle November 2010, today with my surgery date 3-8-11 I am down over 60 pounds. So much that the doctor says I am better off having Lap Band instead of the Bypass.. I have found 20 or more ways to make the shakes using different things to add to them. I feel Great.. You can get the product at GNC or VitaminShoppe's 3 lbs cost ( on sale this week ) $31 dollars. One shake a day last me 1 month. If your interested I can post some of the recipes I've come up with my doctor thinks they're good enough that he asked if he could put them in his packets for his seminars... Hope this helps and congrats on your surgery.

Thank you John for this information and good luck this week. I would be interested in some of your recipe ideas. Yesterday was my first introduction into protein drinks and I took your suggestion. I bought the ISOPure zero carb at GNC (also on sale $42) and it wasn't too bad. However there are no instructions on how much water to mix it with. I would love input on how much water to use and different ideas on how to prepare.

Again good luck this week.

If you would like to try the Nectar by Syntrax for free, come to the Post-Op meeting at RWMC on Wednesday. I'll bring some samples.

Or, give me a call. We'll meet for 'coffee' or a walk in the park!

See ya then?!?

Hi Ginny,
The directions should be on the label. They say 2 scoops of powder per 12 ounces of water ( you can use Skim or the Low Fat Milk )  I prefer to use 8 ounces of water and add a frozen banana it makes the shake AWESOME. Also if you like coffee? Get some instant coffee ( Decaf ) and add a teaspoon to the shake. I will post the recipe's after I get out of the hospital on Wed.. By the way I use a blender to mix everything and then I let it sit about 5 minutes to settle I bought the blender at GNC also it comes with 2 mixing bottles with covers that make them good for on the go.
The blender was like $15.00

For you or anyone who use's the isopure. GNC stores are not going to be carrying the GIANT 7.5 pound isopure anylonger if you can find a store with some, talk to the manager and you can get them 75 Percent off the price, plus Gold Card 20 percent. I just bought 6 of them for $17.80 each normal price $150.00 They expire in 2013 and they are good for 2 yrs after that. Thanks for the well wishes I will keep you posted post op..

Blessings
John
