Hi Fellow RI-landers
I am preparing for my hopefully soon upcoming surgery and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with TDI and BS surgery? Will they allow you to use TDI for a surgery that is considered "elective" ? I'm just trying to get me ducks in a row and figure out how much vacation time I have and if I will have any other options besides vacation time.

I collected once before, for an "elective" reason.  If I recall correctly, the doctor that has you out of work will have to fill out paperwork.  It's your money (that you've paid in), so I don't know how you would be denied.  In any event, got to the department of labor and training website -- there must be some info regarding criteria to collect.  They might even have the forms there for you to download.

My husband is having surgery towards the end of August-first part of September and was told he could use TDI for his time off.  He's had elective procedures before and never had a problem.

GOOD LUCK!

I had my surgery 1 week ago and I filled out all my paperwork right online when I came home.  Just waiting now, as soon as I find out anything I will  be happy to let you know.

I collected TDI for my weight loss surgery and my surgeon was from the same office as yours...they are expert on filing the paperwork.  I will say, though, that I was back to work for a few weeks before I received my TDI...I think there is quite a wait these days...so, you might want to save a bit ahead or tap some vacation time to tide you over.  There is a one week hold back for TDI but if you are out for at least four weeks you then can collect for that first week.  I was out for 4 weeks but I think the docs will approve much more...I did not want to be out any longer and felt that since my job is not that physical that I could go back...my doc actually wanted me to take 6.  good luck with you rsurgery

Hi there, You can def collect TDI for weight loss surgery I had my surgery on April 19th and i forget to send the papers so my hubby did it for me..  In 3 weeks i had my money..  I think it depends on how efficient the doctors are, obviously to my suprise my docs office was very good at..  I was out b4 and it took 8 weeks so needless to day that docs office where not efficient.  I was able to collect tdi for the 6 weeks I was out of work!  SO good luck, and I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery!!!!
