Psych Evaluation

I have gotten all of my other testing done but now I am having a hard time finding someone to do the Psych Evaluation for me without having to pay for it out the nose. My BS office suggested the RI hospital group but the problem there is that they want to do a 2-3 hour evaluation then a 45 minute evaluation. My insurance (TUFTS) will pay for the psych evaluation but only if they are in 45 minute sessions and the RI Hospital group is not willing to break it up.  So the woman at intake told me it would cost me $400! I mean really, I told her that the proof that I am mentally sound is in the fact that I think it's crazy to pay $400 for someone to say yes, you are fit for surgery.  My BS also said it has to be a letter from a Psychiatrist not a Psychologist. Soooo.... that being said, I am on the hunt. HAs anyone had the same issue or know of a Psychiatrist that will see me and be willing to break up the sessions. I have called a few Dr's but they either aren't taking new patients or dont' take my insurance.

Have you checked out the Tufts website to see who participates in this area?

If I were you I would check back with Dr.'s office.  I had an issue getting into that same RIH group and that same Dr.'s office gave me the name of a counselor that they would accept.  She was in Warwick, I think.  I had 1 visit with her and that was accepted.  I was able to get in more quickly and it was not such a time commitment.  The person they referred me to was no a psychologist or psychiatrist, but a counselor.  You may still have an insurance issue, but maybe there is a counselor they will accept who accepts Tufts.

I have downloaded a list of ALL of the MD's in psych from the Tuft's website and I am going through them one by one LOL! (19 pages) MY glimmer of hope came today when a psychologist in Cumberland would do it but the problem is that he is not an MD but said that Dr. Pohl accepted one of his referrals just the other day so I put a call into Dr. G's office (my BS) and they are supposed to call me back. Pray for me that they will accept this Dr. ! So far this is the only wall I have hit. My insurance is supposed to go through in July and I'd like to get everything done before then.

I found a psychiatrist that will do my evaluation within the limits of my insurance coverage Yay! thank you for all of your suggestions. My appointment is May 19th! I'm getting closer and closer.

I'm sorry Helly, but I don't remember her name.  I got her name from Dr. Pohl's office though after I told them the trouble I was having getting into the RIH group.

I had the same issue with Cigna/Tufts.  After many calls, I found Dr Alexander Scagnelli on Centreville Rd in Warwick RI.  He was super nice.  Ph# (401) 821-4100.  Hope this helps anyone trying to find a provider.
