Hi, How is everyone doing?  Im new to the forum.  Ive been looking for a site like this for some time but must have overlooked this.  I have a few questions about how to get started in finding a doctor and all.  I just got off the scale and i've hit 270, and just seeing that gave me instant depression.  I try so hard to be 'healthy' but apparently it hasn't been working well.  A friend of mine had GB surgery, but we lost touch so i thought this would be a nice place to learn and hopefully make some friends who understand how i feel. Please feel free to message me or write back to talk. Sorry if i sound a little corny..lol, Ive never really written in a forum before. Thanks so much for reading.

Julz:

Not too many people have been around lately, but I wanted to say "hi".  You might check out other WLS specific site here on OH -- they can be a mix of the good, bad and ugly.  On the upper left of this screen, click on forums, then surgical forms, and then pick what you are interested in.  It's a great way to do your research.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Julz,   Welcome to the site!  yes, this whole process can be confusing and also frustrating.  But the end result is sooo rewarding!  There are quite of few excellent WLS surgeons here in RI.  You could ask your regular doctor for recommendations.  The people here are always willing to suggest their docs.  I had Dr. Jeannine Giovanni.  She is wonderful.  Young, comes from an Italian family with weight issues.  The only critisism I've heard is about the office staff ( same staff as with Dr. Pohl).  I personally have not had any problems with them.  You can go into my page ( click on my name) and I have written about my progress.  Also Dr. Pohl is an excellent surgeon as well.  There are surgeons at RIH and Miriam Hosp.  that people love too.  I good place to lets LOTS of information and make LOTS of friends is at the support group meetings.  There is the "Living Life" group at RWGH on the third Wednesday of every month.  I go to that one.  You are absolutely welcome to come and join us!  A lot of us on OH go to the meetings.  Well, how is that for an answer to your  questions?  I know, I little more than you expected.  Good luck on your journey. Your friend, Eldy

Hey there Julz,
I've only been hanging around here for a couple of months to. The weight! We've all had the experience you just enplained, ugh! What I did was get to the book store and settled on the idiots how to for WLS. Greated book of info you will ever find. I read it for 6 months. From the time I begain believing i could do this, that is was right for me,. how it all worked and when. I found my Dr through my PCP ( Dr G Dean Roye) the best. Went to seminars and more. I always was aware of what they were talking about because I had gone through that book of mine. From the time I filled out the form sent by the Dr office to the day of surgery was 5months, and through that time and evolution kept going on in my head. That book is sitting right here on the side table so thumbed through I think the pages are done it. It takes you from what am I thinking? straight through to here are recipes for post-op.
Any time you would like to write I'm here......... Hope this helped

No, Dr Roye gave me a BPD Biliopancreatic Diversion without a DS. My problem is there are no choices for the type of surgery I had. So, I chose one. Now there are more choices and went in to change but won't change on the page........ Never ends with software.
