Doubts

Well I am scheduled for surgery on 4/5/10, and I am starting to wonder if this is the right decision for me. I have researched everything that I could think of and I believe that I picked the right hospital (Mariam) and surgen (Dr. Vianthian). I know that people say that Fear and Doubt are part of the process but I never thought I would be one of those people with this fear. And it Sucks.

I have never posted before, though I do read the post almost everyday, I usually find something new to absorb from reading the different topics and the interesting answers. From reading other people's post my answers are mostly answered.

I do have a question, I have gone to the seminars at Mariam, and I know that there are other seminars at other hospitals do they really help.

Thanks,
Billy

The best advice I got just before surgery was "stay off the internet." Any questions I had, any fear/ anxiety, etc... I directed to my doctor's office. I didn't need to hear any urban legends or read potentially bad news.
I was scared out of my mind before surgery. The morning I went in, every bad thought I could possibly have came running through. I told the nurses & they gave me something to help my nerves. Yay for drugs!

Seriously, though, if you're feeling that anxious, I'd call my doctor's office. I think everyone feels apprehensive at some point, it's natural but if you think it's too extreme, then that's something to address.
Breathe!! Like I said I was terrified, but it turns out for nothing. I came through surgery just fine, no complications, no pain & my weight basically fell off, never even had a stall. Best thing I ever did.
"Another day.  Another chance to feel healthy."

Hi Billy!

Rest assured that Dr V is a fabulous surgeon and Miriam is an exceptional hospital!!! Definately attend support groups at least once a month througout the process and after. My husband and I attend both the Miriam and Roger Williams support group each month. Your fears and doubts will be alleviated when speaking to others who have experienced the same recooperation and faced the same challenges.
Meeting others in person is soo much better then just reading posts as you can feel free to ask specific questions at any time.
Living Life meets at Roger William the third Weds of every month at 7pm.
Both my husband and I have no regrets and you should just remind yourself of the reasons you decided to take this journey. Remember, it is a tool that should you use it to the fullest along with excercise and attending support groups, you will be successful!! Long term success is what we are all after, the goal is to relearn eating and the pounds are secondary.

One day at a time!
Good Luck! Dr V will not let you down!
