Ferritin Level of 2

Hi everyone,

I got my bloodwork back and everything was in the normal range except for my ferritin. It was at a 2. I've been reading different posts on here and am confused. Some people say if my B12 and Iron levels are fine then it's not a big deal. Others say that such a low ferritin level requires iron transfusions. I am going to see my surgeon on Thursday of this week so I'm sure we will talk about it, but I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the deal is with low ferritin!?

I added another iron pill at the beginning of this week (I was taking 2 chewable multivitamins with iron per day, and now added another iron pill as well).

I'm nervous and don't want to be, someone please help!

thanks
robyn

hey Robyn,  sorry to hear your level is low.  But please, don't make yourself crazy until you have all the answers.  When you see your surgeon on Thursday he will clear things up for you. You are not alone in this.  This is something that happens to alot of people.  You are still healthier than you were before the surgery.  You are on the upswing.  Let us know how everything goes for you.  Sorry, I can't give you any other answer.  But motivation is important and positive attitudes can really make a difference.  Good luck!  You have done a wonderful thing for yourself!    Eldy

Thanks Eldy,

I don't regret doing the surgery at all, but I just want to get on top of any deficiencies before it gets any worse. I'm not a huge fan of meat to begin with and like it even less since surgery, so I will probably have to supplement extra which is fine, but I want to start doing it now!

Thanks for your support and I'll keep you posted after I see my surgeon tomorrow!

I would also suggest talking with our nutritionist about it especially if you are not keen on meat to ensure you get a full complement from your food intake as well.
