Hello Erica!  I have only been to one of the support groups at RIH but it was a casual atmosphere.  There is usually a topic each month and I think the November topic is actually a fashion show of sorts.  But at the meetings people ask alotta questions etc...its definitely a good thing to attend and get to as many as you can.  I have been bad, only been to 2 total, but thats was due to work schedule and such.  I am determined to get to more of them.  My wife and I are planning on attending RIH tomorrow so maybe we will see you.  Also, I used Dr Roye for my surgery.  He is FANTASTIC!!!  Definitely in good hands!

Hi kathy.  The group last night was good.  I have only been to two of them at RIH and they have both been good.  The December one is the Christmas Party.  People will be bring bariatric friendly food for whatever "stage" of post op that they are in.  Feel free to come!  If you decide to bring something, just make sure that its safe for post WLS people.

Also, there are other support group meetings throughout the month.  There is at least one per week.  If you want to send me a personal message with your email address I can forward you what was sent to me about the meetings.

Good luck with your journey and hopefully we will see you at a meeting one of these days!

I really enjoyed the support group. I was, of course, nervous but after intros and the informal part i feel much more comfortable. I even saw some people i knew, that's RI for ya. haha. I definitely think it should be mandatory for pre-op post-op patients because of the support and information you get. Brian, i think i would like that list of meetings. I'm assuming those include ones at Roger Williams too. Kat, you should def come, you'll get the support for sure!

Hi Erica! You're right about the support groups should be mandatory. They are highly suggested.  But you will find that most people go because they really want to.  We all gain so much out of them.  We make some of the best friends there and we create strong bonds, since we are all basically in the same boat.  I'm glad that Brian is going to send you the list of other support groups.  You will find that alot of the same people go to the different groups.  So you will feel comfortable at all of them.  Besides, I don't think anyone ever stays uncomfortable at a meeting after the first 1 minute!  Hope to see you at one!  I usually go to the one at RW hospital on the 3rd Wednesday at 7pm " Living Life Group".  It fits my schedule well.   Take care and see you soon!!   Eldy
