Medication Question

Hello everyone.  I have heard that some surgeons prescribe some sort of Prilosec (i know its available OTC) in order to minimize i guess what I would call burping.  I am seeming to have alot of episodes of needing to burp but it gets stuck in the throat and wont come up, and i can feel it in my stomach.  My understanding is that either Prilosec or something that can be prescribed would help this.  Can anyone give me any info on this and if any of Dr Rpyes patients read this, let me know if you have had this problem and if Dr Roye gave soemthing for this.

I just want to say, this doesnt hurt, but its getting extremely annoying especially since the majority of the time that i am feeling this is when i am trying to talk.  Thanks

Hey Brian,

I was on Prilosec before my surgery and Dr. G told me to continue it for about 3 months until my pouch was healed.  It helps with gas build-up and I do feel a lot better after I take it.

Ask your doctor for the generic, it's much cheaper than OTC and works just the same.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Kelly Jo.  I will be sure to ask Dr Roye next Friday when I go for my first post op visit.  I thought that I should have been on something but wasnt sure.  I will see what he says and go from there.  Do you swallow the pill right now or cru****  I know you are about a month Post but wasnt sure what the protocal for that was,  I know i am crushing my blood pressure pill and opening the capsule for the gall bladder med and just mixing them with my protein or some skim milk.  Thanks again

Brian,

Mine is in capsule form and I've just swallowed it like normal.  I'm sure you could open it up and sprinkle the powder in with food; I've just been able to handle the capsule.

I'm with Eldy, too, Ask the Dr. Roye.  (But I knew you already know to do that! ~winks~)

Take care!

Hey Brian,   I took a generic prilosec before surgry and several months after.  I would suggest you call Dr. Roye's office before taking any medication, prescription or OTC, so soon after surgery.  Just my opinion.  In fact, they may know of what exactly you should take.  Good luck and hope you feel better!  Eldy

Thanks Eldy!  I would DEFINITELY ask the Dr bfore starting any other meds.  I see him next Friday so I figured i'll give it till then and see if it gets any better and if it does then great, if not, I will ask him about it.  Thanks for the response  =)
