*VENT* SO MAD RIGHT NOW!!!!

Ok, so let me start this out by saying that Magnesium Citrate is the DEVIL!!!!  I dont ever what to have to take that crap (pun intended) ever again!!  But wait!!  I HAVE TO TAKE IT AGAIN NEXT WEDNESDAY!!!!  I follwed all mny instructions, took the mag citrate mid-morning, called Dr Royes office after 11 am like my paperwork said to find out what time to be to Rhode Island Hospital tomorrow morning and low and behold, i am being cancelled and rescheduled to next Thursday!!!  ARE YOU KIDDNG ME?!?!?!?!?  Now I understand that Mrs Roye was expecting a child and I was told by Dr Roye that I may get changed, but I swear that he said that if i was scheduled the day after the baby came that I wouldnt be cancelled.  Maybe that was just my ears playing tricks on me, I dont know.  Now please dont get me wrong here people, I am not mad that Mrs Roye had the baby today, and I am not mad at Dr Roye about this either b/c if it were me in his shoes, my mind wouldnt be in surgery, and as a patient, I want to know full well that my surgeons mind is on my surgery and my surgery only when he is in the OR with me on the table.  What I am frusterated about is that the office couldnt have made proactive calls to the patients scheduled to go in for surgery tomorrow .  Here's a novel idea, CALL US FIRST THING IN THE MORNING!!!!!  SAVE US FROM HAVING TO BOWEL PREP TWICE!!!!  Oh and here is the other kicker to this....In order to do bowel prep you cant work that day unless you can move your office into the bathroom.  So I ask his secretary when she resends my paperwork for leave to take me out on Wednesday b/c I dont have anymore time to use.  I was told and I quote, "he doesnt like to do that.  we really cant take someone out of work the day before."  and here was my response, "you NEED TO TAKE ME OUT THE DAY BEFORE B/C I CANNOT DO MY JOB SITTING ON THE TOILET THE DAY BEFORE!!"  I was then told that i dont have to take it till later int he day.  So mny response to that was, the pre-op group you make us go to before surgery clearly states mid morning, so no, I will not take it later in the day b/c I dont wanna be up all nite sitting on the throne.  I'd like to TRY and get some sleep the day before.....GRRRRR.....long story short, they are going to take me outta work next Wednesday for bowel prep,  I am just so upset right now!!  I have waited this long and now i have to wait another week.  great.  I guess on on the positive side, i am not nervous at all yet, so, hopefully that will continue.  Anyway, thanks for listening/reading this.

So, Brian, tell us how you really feel about this!  Just kidding. Sorry, couldn't resist.   I don't blame you for being furious about this situation.  I swear sometimes the staff at these surgeons office forget that we are "people" and not just "appointments".  It would have made your life a heck of a lot easier if they had called you and let you know in advance.  But thats over with now.  Take a deep breath.  Be satisfied that you did have your say with them ( alot of people would have vented but not to the staff).  Now focus forward and prepare for the surgery.  Once that takes place this will all be history.  Just another pre-op story to tell.  One that maybe will save some poor pre-op soul the same aggrevation.  Good luck to you and let us know how things are progressing!   Take care, Brian!   Eldy

Brian,  my response to your storyis "wow he is having another baby".  There were patients going through the exact same thing when I was a patient.  You have to grin and bear it.   It sucks, but when all is done, you will have forgotten about all of this.  Good luck

OMG Brian ~ I went through the same EXACT thing almost 2 years ago!!!  I was scheduled to have surgery 11/29 and did my prep the day before - showed up at the hospital as I was instructed at 6 am.  I was called in to an office and my husband and I were told that Dr. Roye's wife was in labor.  OMG - the emotions I went through - like you... how can anyone be upset with the doctor or his wife... of course that is where he should be.  But man, the pity party I threw for myself - I was dumbfounded!  I didn't have to deal with the office staff much for this other than pressure them to get me rescheduled ASAP as the Christmas holidays were coming and I wanted to be feeling better before they came.  Best of luck to you ~ hope to meet you at a meeting soon as I need to get myself back there - getting too comfortable in my new (saggy) skin!

Keep us updated on your surgery -

Pam
