One More Week

Well today marks one wee****il surgery for me.  Surprisingly I am not at all nervous about it, not yet anyway.  I have to go to my pre-op group session on thursday morning and have my final weigh in.  I am just praying that I havent gained anything since i was scheduled for surgery.  I have been following a modified liquid diet the past almost 2 weeks to try and drop some, but seem to have stalled.  I am pretty sure i'll be ok, but until i see the number on the docs scale, it still weighs on me,

I do have some questions for those of you that have had surgery at rhode island hospital though.  I was looking through the packet of info from the doctors office and it mentions that we cannot bring in anything that has to be plugged into an electrical outlet.   I was hoping to have my wife bring me my laptop seeing as I will be there probbaly 3-5 days b/c i am expecting this to be an "open" procedure.  So my questions is, does RIH have wifi and if so, can i have my laptop even though it will need to be plugged in to charge?  the other question is, can i have my cell phone?

if anyone can answer these questions for me i'd appreciate it.  Thank you

Brian

THIS WEEK WILL GO BY SO FAST!  I LOST 20# PRE-OP; FLUSHED OUT ALL THUSE TOXINS! LOST 13# JUST FROM SURGERY!!!!!!!!!! I WASN'T NERVOUS EITHER, I WAS SO GRATEFUL!!
YOU WILL DO GREAT JUST KEEP POSITIVE.  I KNOW YOUR WIFE & DAD WILL BE WITH YOU.  HAVE YOU TALKED TO YOUR MOM?
I'M NOT FROM RI BUT I KNOW I DECIDED TO KEEP MY LAPTOP AT HOME IN FEAR FROM GETTING STOLEN!!  HAVE YOUR WIFE KEEP IT CHARGED AND BRING IT TO YOU WHEN YOU ARE READY OR JUST WAIT TIL YOU GET HOME. YOU MAY WANT TO REST AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE WHILE IN THE HOSPITAL IF YOU HAVE AN OPEN! THE BEST THING I TOOK TO THE HOSPITAL WAS HEADPHONES AND SOOTHING MUSIC - I HAD A SCREAMER NEXT DOOR!
BEST WISHES AND MY PRAYERS WILL BE WITH YOU,
YOUR WEST COAST FRIEND, LORRIE

I'd just bring both (don't forget the cell phone charger) and play dumb about the electrical.  In my mind, odds are nobody is going to say anything to you.  I believe they do have wifi -- they do bedside electronic charting there and have "things" hanging from the ceilings in the halls for the computers (OK, I'm not technical, can you tell?).

Good luck to you!

I had my cell phone with me, but I never plugged it in.  they do not want things that plug in for a few reasons - risk of electrical hazard, they might be in the way if something medical (emergency- I pray not!) happens, or there might not be a free outlet to plug into... you can always have your wife bring the laptop and take it home to charge if they do not allow you to plug it in.  (I do not know about wifi though)

I found the nurses to be very nice and accomodating at RIH.  No kids were supposed to be in the visiting rooms etc.  Well they brought my kids ice cream!!

Sorry - wanted to add - I had no desire to talk on the phone or do anything social during my stay - all I focused on was walking, peeing, pooping and farting - not even kidding LOL!

Johanna that is great!!  That made me laugh.  I am not sure how much social activity i will want to do either but i am just trying to prep myself.  I actuallty spoke with someone there today that called to get some intake info and i asked her, she had stated that there is wifi and that the laptop and phone should be fine.  even plugging it in shouldnt be an issue.  i guess we will have to see.  i definitely wont want it the day of, but maybe the day after.  we will see how things go and if i have to wait till i get home, then so be it.  at least i should have a tv and the baseball playoffs start then so, i will at least have something to keep me occupied when my wife isnt there.  Thanks again and i look forward to walking, peeing, pooping and farting!  just wish i could say the same for my wife looking forward tome doing that!!  lolol

Seriously you will never think of a fart as so wonderful until after surgery... but I think you may not have issues with gas B/c you are having open surgery - I think the lap surgeries have that problem!!   See you did luck out in one aspect!

Congrats, Brian!

It will be here before you know it!  Just remember to take it easy after surgery, especially since you are expecting an open procedure!

Good Luck and there's a spot on the Loser's bench for you...I'll have it polished off and adding your name!
