Dr Roye questions

Hello everyone!  I have a question to ask about Dr Roye.  I have surgery scheduled for 10/6, only 14 days away and I am worried about gaining weight between now and the pre-op meeting on 10/1, which is only 9 days away!  I have been trying to follow a self imposed "liquid" diet with very little solid food but have had a hard time following it.  I have found myself cheating on it alot and am worried that I have gained weight since getting my surgery date.  I was told that I would need to get on the scale at the pre-op meeting but it wasnt specified about gain or loss.  My questions is this:

If I have gained weight between my 2nd appointment (when i got my surgery date) and the day of the pre-op meeting, will they cancel surgery??  The problem is, i cant even check myself b/c my scale wont go high enough and I dont want to pay for a new scale that will when i am going to be losing and the one i have will be prefectly good.

I dont want tem to cancel surgery and I know if I gain its my own fault, but i really am trying and its just not going the way I want it to.  I think alot of it has to do with the idea that there are certain things i know i wont be able to have again, and want them one last time.

Any info would be greatkly appreciated!  thank you in advance!.

Hello Brian. I just had surgery last Thursday and i had the same problems that you did.. They actually did postpone my surgery because I gained weight. They wanted me to lose weight because the first 20 pounds comes from your liver an they need your liver to be as small as possible for the surgery. Are you having bypass or lap-band? What are you having for the liquids? maybe i can help w some suggestions. hope to talk to you soon...

Brian,

Dr. Roye will cancel, he doesn't mess around.  I remember the first thing he said to me after surgery was that my liver was perfect to work around because it wasn't enlarged.  They also weighed me at the hospital prior to surgery and I had lost weight.  If you liver is enlarged it will be hard for him to do what he has to.

Just something to get you motivated.  I did anything he said because I wanted it so bad.  I even put my cigaretts down and haven't touched one since, just because he said he wouldn't touch me unless I was 2 months clean.

Good Luck
Nancy
