Suggested Dr. for Lap Band in RI?
Hi,
I just had my gastric bypass last friday and already my sister is very impressed. She is looking for to have the Lap Band and wondered if any of you would recommend a Dr. in the Providence area. I am hoping to sign her on to OH tonight but thought I would get a jump on it.
Thanks in advance for all your support!!

First, congratulations on your surgery! What a change isn't it? I'm still in awe when I think about the changes i have gone thru already. Next, there are alot of great surgeons here in RI. I have not heard a bad thing about any of them. All the ones mentioned are terrific from what I here. I had Dr. Jeanine Giovanni ( she is in the same office as Dr. Pohl). She is wonderful also. Hope to hear more from you and your sister! Take care! Eldy
Hey Mimi,
Dr. Roye did my by-pass, but also does the band. I just love his beside manner, but you gotta be a fan of dry humor. I think he's a riot. It doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eye too. I have to agree that he is extremely thorough. I had a blood condition that I never knew about until I met him when I was 46 and he did a super thorough set of exams. He is extremely attentive through the whole process, at least that was my experience. When I had a problem with one of the interns at RIH, he gave him the business right quick! I've heard nothing but great things about all the surgeons in his group - University Surgical Associates. I think your sister would be in good hands whomever she goes with.

Congrats to you on your bypass. I hope all is going well.
Both my husband and I are Dr. Vithiananthan;s patients. He is WONDERFUL!!! Very skilled and personable. And his Nurse Practioner Amy is great too. He's based out of Miriam your sister would like an alternative to RWMC or RI hospital. We both had great experiences at Miriam , its a great smaller hospital, very modern and easy parking.
Dr. V's office number is: (407) 793-5140
P.S. if your sister likes using the web, she might want to consider getting a Realize band. They have a more interactive website that you use to track your progress. Both bands are pretty much the same besides that.
Good luck to both of you.
