Abdominal hernia?

I have my second pre-op appointment (yay!) with Dr. Pohl on July 2. Since I first saw him, I have developed a bad pain in my lower left abdomen. My PCP did a "palpation" exam (not fun) and told me I had a hernia and needed to consult with a general surgeon. He also gave me Vicodin, which I have been taking only at night. My questions are:
1) isn't Dr. Pohl a general surgeon? Theoretically, could he do this surgery at the same time as my LapBand?
2) If not, is this going to set me back?
3) Has anyone else ever had this type of hernia and how did they diagnose it? Isn't there some sort of scan or imaging that should be done?

Thanks!

Me thinks the answer to both #1 questions is yes.  Make sure you ask when you see him on Thursday.
