Hello,

New to the OH boards...live in Providence.  Have been considering WLS for 5+ years.  When I lived in Ohio, I was almost to surgery (Barix Clinics) and decided to wait it out.  Now, am back in the space where I def need some medical/surgical intervention.

Am planning on attending the info night next Wednesday at The Miriam (Dr. Vithiananthan), then hit up RIH and RWMC the following month.

Hope to meet some of you around sometime.

Andrew

Yes, Welcome Andrew!!

Jump in, ask questions, we don't bite...well, some of us nibble but we won't if you don't like that kinda thing!!

I'm relatively new here, as well, but the support is great and the support groups are incredible!  I learn so much at each of them.

Hi Andrew-
I just became an OH member three days ago. Everyone has been great and the information has been helpful. Usually, I do not go on the computer too much because I am on it all day at work. But this website, I do look forward now to check in with others.m

I just had my first visit with Dr. Giovanni. She was great. She says I am a great candidate for the lap band. So I just have to finish a few more tests on my checklist and hopefully my insurance will say yes to the approval. I see my regular MD on Monday. I am going to make sure he writes a very detailed report for them.

Good luck.

Andrew ~ Hello and welcome to the RI Forum.  Can tell you this is a super amazing group of people with all kinds of information and support.  I've learned so much from them.  Hope all goes well at the informational meetings, it'll be a good means for you to start getting introduced to surgeons and the various programs.  There's also support groups held at all three of the hospitals and those who attend are at all different stages of the WLS journey.  Might be another way for you to get some information and to meet many of us here on OH.  Look forward to seeing you there.
Wishes of wellness to you!
~ Sandy

Thanks to everyone for their kind and warm welcome....It's quite a change from what I experience on a daily basis at work - (I am a nurse and some healthcare personnel can well... just be a bit insensitive at times - imagine that!)

Regardless, I am hoping to learn more about the various options.  Due to some underlying health conditions, like an autoimmune disorder and being on steroids, I know that i am probably not eligible for Lap Band - something to do wtih the erosion of the band, etc.  But being a nurse, I want to be fully informed about all my possible options, surgeries, pre-and post-care, and all that happy jazz....and I guess sometime sbeing a nurse and wanting to know all these things can make decisions even more difficult.

Anyway, thanks again for the comments and well wishes, and new nicknames (although that one is hard to swallow).... grin

Andrew
