HELP!!! Pre-op diet is killing me!

I started the pre-op diet last Wednesday.  I bought the Proti-Max protein drinks from Dr. Pohl's office.  It is the NASTIEST thing!     Every time I drink one I get very nauseaus after.  I wanted to use it up since I bought two weeks worth but I can't take it anymore.  Can anyone recommend a good protein drink that doesn't taste like chalk?  Also, I'm starving!  I still have to cook for my family and it's torture for me.  I can't stop thinking about food!  I'm thinking about it more than I ever did when I wasn't on a diet.  I know how important it is to lose weight before surgery.  I know I need to shrink my liver and also it's good practice for after surgery when I can only have liquids.  I'm so afraid I'm going to lose it , go crazy and eat everything in sight!  I'm just curious, for you Dr. Pohl's patients, how much weight did you lose on your pre-op diet?

Marcia:
I bought the Proti-max drinks as well, the Lemon with crushed ice isn't bad, its like dels and the choc. I did not have a problem with but I did get sick of them, I really did... Just try to keep your eye on the prize and stay focused... I know its hard... I really never found a protein shake I really liked but just stick with it... you can do it..  My pre-op I lost about 10 pounds...and for my small meal at night I would have 1 piece of grilled chicken (a whole piece) and some vegis... and of course when I got hungry at night I just went to bed..

Good Luck..

Thanks Kris,
I actually did buy the Lemon flavor but have not tried it yet.  I ended up using a brand my husband bought me from Walmart, but I will give the lemon with crushed ice a try.  Only us Rhode Islanders would know what you're talking about when you say it tastes like Del's.lol!!

i used the eas advantage shakes, 17grams of protien(4.99 at walmart) the 2 chocolate flavors worked for me. i put them in the blender along with ice, and had a ice cold shake...and it wasn't bad.
as far as eating, we all want something more when we know we cant have it. damn head games!!! now you know what i meant.
at dinner have a lean cuisine or healthy choice dinner.  luckily for me, my husband took over the cooking for me... i think he felt bad, but it was a huge help. my older son eats out mostly, because he is never home, and my little one usually doesnt eat what we have for supper anyway, so it worked for me.
i lost 16 pounds total on my pre op. first week, i lost 11 lbs, then the second week 5.  i was shocked myself...guess that is what might have kept me going, lol....space your shakes out, maybe that will help...the protien should fill you a bit...

hope this works

Thanks Linda,
That's exactly what my husband went and bought at Walmart and I'm finding it better.  I have no idea if I've lost anything yet, but I am STARVING!

I am drinking the EAS protein shakes.  The vanilla leaves little to be desired on taste but the chocolates are tolerable.  They have saved me many times over the last few weeks when I needed (wanted!!) something quick for a meal but didn't have time to fix or warm up anything.  I also find that these keep me a bit fuller than other shakes.  I do keep it on ice and drink slowly (as I would if I have already had the surgery) and that helps me to not be hungry.  Also the chocolate flavor helps my chocolate cravings.

Keep looking at the end result...you'll get there!  and you aren't alone.  Everyone here has been or will be going through the same thing.  Keep your chin up.  You can do this!!!!

Thanks Kelly Jo,
My husband went to Walmart and bought me the EAS chocolate and it is much better.  Damn, I spend $80 on packets from Dr. Pohl's!

I can't stand the ones from their office either.  I buy protein powder from Target for 14.99.  Its called Body Fortress it has 26g of protein in 1 scoop.  I make it with 6oz of water, ice and I add 2tsps of unsweetened cocoa powder.  Its not chalky and it tastes pretty good.  I will still have one to make sure I get a boost of protein.  Good luck!  You can do it.  Remember, its only temporary and before you know it, you will be all past this and eating food again.    Eldy

marcia!  I dont envy you one bit....Ive gotta start that very same diet next tuesday!  ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!  LOL!!  Ive been on the optifast before tho and found that the "wikked hungries" usually go away after the 2nd or 3rd day.  then your body goes into a semi fasting mode and you shouldnt feel so bad.  Im planning on using the slimfast low carb diet shakes.  I have tried the eas shakes...blah!  and Im not even gonna try the shakes fromt he doctors office after what you just said! LOL!!  I want to go to GNC and see about other options..I also want to try the powered shake Eldy suggested, but you have to buy a whole big container of it..I guess if I dont like it I can always give it to you Eldy!
Hang in there Marcia...Im right behind ya!.......Cathy

Thanks Cathy,
I didn't know we could use the Slimfast.  I used to drink the regular Slimfast and like it.  I'll give these a try!
