psych didn't clear me

OK, so Dr. G. called me today to inform me that Dr Messier didn't clear me.  I had seen her last year around Thanksgiving and I had to do 4-6 visits and when they were done she gave me no indication that she had no intention of not clearing me. When Dr.. G was giving me the reasons they didn't make sense to me and they weren't registering one thing I do remember is that  I use to see Dr. Ragheb as a personal psych, it had nothing to do with the surgery, Dr. Messier stated that Dr. Ragheb let me go because I was non-compliant,  how could I be non compliant when he and I both agreed it wasn't working and I should go elsewhere and it had nothing to do with the sugery. I have done everything I was suppose to, I quit smoking the week after my first visit with Dr. G, I stopped taking my vicoden for my headaches and neck pain, I went to the nut for 6 months, I did the 4-6 support groups. The other thing is Dr. Messier thinks I would be better with the lap band and not the by-pass
Anyway, does anyone have any advice or anything.
How about a psych. Can some one give me something , please. I have been so upset since I spoke with Dr. G, I have been crying on and off trying not to let my four year old see it. help, please

So sorry your going through this.  I don't remember the name of the woman I saw (across from Women & Infants) but she didn't clear me after my visit for my revision.  I was livid, she said I had failed at the band (even though I lost over 100 lbs and kept 70 of it off, I was a border line alcoholic (2 -3 drinks a week does not make me a drunk), and she believed I had binging & psychologic issues.   She NEVER even met with me, someone else did and she walks in and after 2 minutes diagnosis me, I don't think so.  She wouldn't clear me and I called Dr. Pohl's office in tears after leaving the office.

I ended up going through my own personal counselor who had been treating me for almost 4 1/2 years and we had discussed my band, talked monthly for 2 yrs following that surgery and discussed all the issues and why I wanted a revision, and talked for 7 months about a revision.  I brought in paperwork from Dr. Pohl explaining all the risks & benefits and we talked in depth about it.  She then wrote a letter to Dr. Pohl which was submitted to Blue Cross and I was approved.

Don't give up, that doctor doesn't have the final word.

Thanks,

You know when I went for the first psych evaluation the lady was a real  jerk she didnt even let me get a word in edge wise, didn't ask me anything, she had all the answers to all the questions.  I was told I had to do the 4-6 support group meetings and I did with no problem, Dr. Messier gave me no indication  she wasn't going to clear me. The ****** is I have done everythng I was told I had to and Dr. G is so stern and adiment (?) about everything with me, I dont know maybe its me
Also, Dr. G herself called me and told me I wasnt cleared and that I needed to get cleared or no go. its like I cant make her happy no matter what I do. It seems to me that Dr. Pohl a nicer, guy and has a better rappor (?) with his patients. Any suggestions on a psych.

Did you goto the place by Women & Infants?  Kind of across the street behind the parking lot?

I was soooooooo angry with that office and they wanted to to goto some group sessions & one-on-one sessions but they weren't at times I could attend.  I was a district HR manager at the time for Home Depot and traveled to Watertown & Boston daily.  Because I couldn't come to 2pm & 4pm sessions on weekdays the nasty women said I didn't care about my health and wasn't serious about the surgery.  Complete lie ..... I need to work to pay my bills and healt insurance, can't keep taking time away from work.

Call your insurance company and see who they will cover to do private one-on-one sessions.  My therapist doesn't usually counsel weight loss surgery, but I had been with her for years through my fertility and cancer treatments so she worked with me.   Now I'm looking for another counselor to help me with my body image issues, my mind hasn't caught up with my body yet.  I'll still see her for other things a few times a year (especially close to my yearly cancer check-up) but I need someone who specializes in weight loss patients.

Yup that's the place. Well first I was seeing a psych,  Dr. Ragheb, (don't even get me going on him) for personal reasons. He and I didn't hit it off and I kept missing apt.'s so we decided it would be best if we stop  the sessions and move on. OK no problem. But, somehow him and I going our separate ways, witch we both agreed on, make me non-compliant as far as Dr. Messier is concerned, she is the one i was ordered to do the support groups with...the one who wont clear me.Now, somehow Dr. Ragheb has something to do with the bypass eval and he wasn't even involved in the first place. I don't know, I know Dr. G is a great surgeon, but I have jumped through hoops for her, to prove to her I was serious about the surgery. I'm beginning to wonder if I should start over with a different surgeon, explain everything and take it from there.
maybe they will have their psych people they prefer to work with.  What do you think.  I thought about Dr. Pohl but its the same office as Dr. G.

by the way, I really appreciate you taking the time to talk with me, I really need someone who understands. My husband is great and supportive but its not the same. Actually, I would appreciate anyone who has any input on this problem.

Just so you know, Dr.'s Ryder, Roye and Harrington use that same psych practice, in case you were considering them.

While they provided a list of psycs to see I decided to get my own to provide a note.  I used my own psyc that I had been seeing prior to considering the surgery and was cleared by him.  Dr. Jacobs has been a big help to me in understanding why and what triggers my issues with food etc.
His name is Dr. Gene Jacobs Tel: 401-463 -5778

Good luck!

Hang in there.  Are you going to the meeting tonight?

Maybe someone there will have a psych to refer you to.
