Hi everyone...so I am 5 days post op and down 12 lbs...that totally makes my day!  But i'm having feelings I didn't expect to have.  It took 2 years just for me to decide this is what I wanted...and then when I made the decision, things happened fast!  I started this process in january!  Now that the "thrill" of the surgery is over, I think i've had some doubts about whether or not I did the right thing.  Is this normal?  This is a huge lifestyle change and I was well informed and I thought I was prepared.  I'm doing everything by the book, I feel great physically...but a little down mentally...someone plz tell me this is normal!!!

Hello there.  Think what you're feeling is so normal.  Can tell you I went through the very same thing a short while after my surgery.  You'll hear some even use the term "buyer's remorse."  We put so much time as well as physical and emotional energy into this WLS process and once we have this surgery our emotions can be all over the place.  It is indeed a huge lifestyle change for us and those around us.  Maybe it's the hormonal changes we might face post-op.  Maybe it's the rapid physical changes we experience.  Maybe it's the trying to figure out all the things the books tell us and all the new information we have to process from vitamin schedules to making sure we get our protein and fluids in.  Maybe it's the mourning we go through over our old friend-- food.  But whatever it may be be for you -- YOU'RE NORMAL, IT'S NORMAL!

You are definitely normal!

When I was 5 days post-op, I ended up back into surgery with a twisted bowel. But even with that, I have had no regrets...ever!

However, I was feeling really down for the first couple months after surgery. I was really tired all the time and although I was losing weight quickly, I felt pretty crappy.

There was such a build up to the surgery, then BOOM, it was done!

What you're feeling is really normal and expected. You'll get through it before you know it and will be posting replies to others who will also go through this and post their concerns.

You're doing great!

I'm proud of you!

Jules

Revision on 05/20/15 with
Definately normal.  You've been through a lot and now your body and head need to catch up with one another.  I went through it twice with both my band and revision to the RNY.  I was fine going into surgery for my band - actually sang the entire way in.  Then the day of my RNY I cried and cried, was a basket case as the rolled me away from my hubby.   I was great when I woke up from surgery and then 3 weeks later it hit me and I just kept wondering had the past 2 years been worth it all.  Now 7 months out from revision I can tell you ...... YES it was all worth it and hoping to be at goal by New Years.

Hello,

Totally normal.  Keep in mind that if you are like most overweight people you were most likely using food as a coping tool of some sort.  Now that is gone and you need to learn how to change your coping skills.

I had the surgery about 10 weeks ago and I felt the same way, actually I still do sometimes.  But less and less each day as I learn new habits.  One thing that has helped me is to find new and healthy recipies.  It has made it exciting again.

You are doing all the right things.  This is just a small bump in the road.

Good luck and congrats on the surgery.

Robyn
