DR. POHL patients............
Marcia,
I'm looking into the RnY, yes. I have been referred to Dr. Pohl's office from my Internist. But I'll be checking out the other doctors in the area, via their seminars, to see who I'm comfortable with and understand.
I, too, have been welcomed so warmly and I check here on a daily basis to see what's going on and to put my two cents worth in!
I can't wait to start meeting people! It's nice to know that we are or were in the same boat at one time or another.
Good luck to you, as well! I've got good shoulders and ears if you need them!

Hi Kelly Jo,
Like you, I wanted to check out other bariatric surgeons. Although I started the process with Dr. Pohl, I had an appointment last week with Dr. Harry Sax and I may try to get a consultation with Dr. Roye as well. When I met with Dr. Pohl back in January, I was planning on getting the lap-band. ( I had done absolutely no research at that time). After reviewing my history with him, he strongly recommended that I get RnY. Last week when I met with Dr. Sax, he felt very strongly that I should get the lap band. Talk about confused! Two doctors with excellent reputations advising me on different surgeries. To add to the confusion, about a week ago I wandered on the the Duodenum Switch Forum and became very interested in that! I got approved for RnY and I'm 99% sure that's what I'll do.
Thanks for the offer of lending an ear. My husband freaks out when I talk about surgery, I may take you up on it sometime!
Good luck with your process. Have a great day! Marcia

Hi Linda,
Congratulations on getting approved and getting your surgery date! How is the pre-op diet going? I absolutely dread it! I think people are going to have to stay clear of me during those two weeks!
There is not a blog for Dr. Pohl. To communicate with fellow Rhode Islander's just go to where you found this post. (Rhode Island Forum-Messages). I'm no pro on this site either. I mainly go to the RI Forum and the main Q&A pages.
Good luck on the rest of your pre-op diet. Please keep me updated on your progress and especially after your surgery, since you a just one step ahead of me. Marcia

Dr Pohl has been awesome from the day I met him....I am scheduled on May 19th for the RnY... I am so excited... He is probably the most thorough doc I know.
I started back a year ago since I attended the seminar.....and here I am today. It's surreal to me. I am so freakin excited, I sometimes can't contain myself...lol and I have no problems telling anyone who asks....ok, so maybe I would just tell them without them asking...lol
The pre-op can be stressful if u are quitting smoking at the same time....arrrggghhhh
It was always easier to go out and have a cigareete instead of eating... or vice versa...now I am lost....
The funny thing is, I look at it like i buried 2 of my friends....or what I thought were my friends...you know that comforting feeling....meanwhile, they were only hurting me....
I know, you are thinking...corny analogy, but hey..think about it... what we sometimes hold close should be at a distance....
ok, enough psychology, because it def is not my department...lol
hope all is well with everyone...be well
