Torturing myself
So I was, a few years ago, on a low carb diet. I bought a few low carb and diabetic cook books during that time. One of them is titled 500 low carb recipes. It has a bunch of low carb bread machine recipes. I am drooling at the thought of eating bread right now! Bread and shrimp, and anything I need to chew!! The idea of a rolled up slice of lunch meat is divine. Chicken in a crock pot? ooh heaven.
How in the hell do people last 6-8 weeks on a liquefied puree diet? Rob - right now you get serious props from me for being on a liquid diet for such an extended period of time. I KNOW I never would have had the will power to do it. Hell I am only a week out and am struggling with this stupid liquefied puree crap.
I am off to search the web and torture myself some more!
Hey Johana!
First, congratulations on taking before and during measurements. They are great for the self-esteem when the numbers on the scale don't seem to be moving. I do my measurements once a month. It's been a blessing in disguise...when I don't lose weight, I lose inches. It's weird and awesome at the same time.
When I was doing the pureed, I would eat the same thing I cooked for everyone else. I just blended mine. This really helped with the 'wanna chew' cravings because at least I was eating what I really wanted. Of course, I cooked more healthy for everyone else. No one even noticed!
Let me tell you, you only have to rush yourself to chew that slice of lunch meat once to find that you may not be able to handle it. Then it won't be so tempting after that.
Take it slowly. Meanwhile, cottage cheese (in any way you can eat it or like it), sugar free popsicles, pureed chili (homemade preferred-much leaner) and other items that really quench your taste buds really help deal with the non-chewing issues.
Two awesome, highly recommended, cook books that give recipes for all stages of post-WLS are:
Recipes for Life After Weight-Loss Surgery - delicious dishes for nourishing the new you. By Margaret M. Furtado, M.S., R.D., L.D.N.
Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery - over 140 delicious low-fat, hight-protein recipes to enjoy inthe weeks, months and years after surgery. By Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray.
I hope this helps you and others reading!
Hope to see you soon!

I have been walking - by means of shopping and the mall!! Every time somone goes they get me to tag along. I have not gone the past two days though - I have been feeling sick to my stomach. I will go fpr a walk again today though I feel a lot better - maybe I was getting dehydrated. I don't know about you but I have a hard time getting the water in. I had to stop taking the vicoden. I still am achey but I would rather feel that way than the fuzziness I get from the vicoden ya know?
I have my post op appoinment tomorrow - we will see how that goes. I think I am going to go to the trans. class early... I cannot go on the june date and there is NO WAY IN HELL I am sticking with puree longer than I have to!!! So I will go a little early just to know what to do and do it as soon as I am allowed.
Talk soon!
