Need YOUR Support!

Hello My Friends!

As many of you know, I was asked by Randi Belhumeur, Nutrition Coordinator for Initiative For A Healthy Weight, RI Department of Health, and honored to testify on behalf of a new Bill put forward to the house of senates on Wednesday, April 22nd.

The Bill's intent is to require chain food service establishments to provide nutrition information for all standard menu items listed on the menu, including the total number of calories per serving, as usually prepared and offered for sale. I have a copy of this Bill, as well as the companion Bill on the House side for your information (let me know if you want it).

This act would take effect on January 1, 2010.

As you well know, our state, our nation has become more and more obese as the years go by. We are proof of that! We are ALSO proof that education is the answer!!!

That being said, I am asking for your support on helping this Bill to be approved.

I do KNOW how very busy you all are and I will do EVERYTHING I can to help you in any way possible! I'm asking if you could, please take a few moments out of your busy, beautiful, weekend to send a letter to your State Senator and/or Representative.

I have a Letter template (created by Randi) for you to use and a list of our State Senators, the Districts they represent and their email addresses for your convenience.

If you are unsure about who your Senator/Representative is and feel a bit intimidated by the whole idea, I will assist you in any way I can. You are welcome to send your letters to me or directly to your Senator/Representative.

Unfortunately, the deadline for the receipt of these letters is Tuesday. However, I will be having ear surgery Tuesday morning and will be unavailable for a few days so although it adds more pressure on you, I'm asking that you get them in by Monday if you would like me to help.
