I just got my date!!!

I am so excited!  I just got the call from Dr. Pohl's office with my lap band surgery date.  It will be on May 12th.  I saw the doctor yesterday and he said that I don't need to do his usual 2 week diet since I am doing Medifast right now.  I just need to continue with that until the day before, which will be liquids only.  It seems like a long time but I guess it is only a month away.  I have lost 42 pounds so far...hope I lose more before the big day.

Now for the bittersweet part.  I lost both my parents within 5 months of each other last year.  That is what gave me the wakeup call that I  needed to make bigtime lifestyle changes because I do not want to die!!  So the timing couldn't be worse...the anniversary of my mother's death is May 14th so it will be a difficult time as well.

Personally, I think it's going to be an extra special good time for you.  I believe in these little quirks of life.  If my band surgery was scheduled near the anniversary of my mom's death (which happens to be May 12th of all days!), I'd keep it close to my heart.  It's going to be your rebirth, and will now make the time each year more of a positive moment for you.

Thanks for putting a positve spin on the timing, Deb.  Sometimes you need someone to point something out...."you can't see the forest through the trees" kind of thing!!

I see you are a fellow bandster.  Any words of wisdom??

You'll actually be having your surgery before me, so I don't know how much wisdom I can share.  What I've tried to do pre-op, though, is get my mind thinking like a bandster.  I've worked on decreasing my Diet Pepsi habit, getting in all my water (and then some), sticking to a daily calorie intake the nutritionist prescribed, and eating dense protein first.  I've been happy with my progress so far.

You know, everything happens for a reason and maybe mom and dad are watching over you and will make sure you stay safe and healthy. Although it is bittersweet, think of how proud they would be that you value yourself enough to make this BIG lifestyle change. Congrats~~~~~~Kim

Liza, we could potentially be roommates!!  How funny is that?  What time do you have to be there?  I know my surgery is shorter but I have to arrive at 9.  Doesn't it make it more real to have an actual date to hold on to?  Yay for us!!!

I know, that is funny :) I have to be at the hospital at 6am - yuck!! I would rather your 9am time myself, but I am just grateful to be going. I would go at 3am if that's what it took . And yes, it makes it SO much more real with a date. And next week, when it is 3 weeks, I think I am going to start to freak a little. Up until now it's always been so close but yet so far, you know? When it's 3 weeks away it seems like it's only so close now!!!

Congrats on getting your surgery date!

It would be really neat if you and Liza become roomies! If not, at least you can walk to each others' rooms and visit!

My heart feels for your loss. I'm so sorry.

You've gotten a lot of feedback here! Another congrats on starting a healthy journey!

Hope to see you at a support group some time before your date. Groups are a great place to meet others' who have been through something similar to what you're experiencing.

God Bless!

Jules
