wondering if anyone has had the cardiac stress test and failed does this prevent you from having the gastric by pass? I ride my bike 3-4 times a week and have just started to do the treadmill but I really don't have much endurence for the treadmill. I just so afraid if I fail the stress it will prevent me from having the surgery.

Hi!   I did not fail the stress test, but I want to say to you, not to fret.  Its not that bad.  They do not make you run on the treadmill (that was my worry).  They just have you walk on it for about 15-20 minutes and monitor your heart rate and blood pressure.  Then they have you lay on the table and they monitor your heart rate and blood pressure again.  They talk to you the whole time.   At least that is how they did it with me.  I did however, fail the blood pressure part.  It was way too high  190/94.  They put on me on medication until it came down and then I was cleared for surgery.  I discovered that a food I was eating had ALOT of sodium in it.  That caused my pressure to spike.  So really watch your sodium intake.  You didn't mention if you have any cardiac issues.  If not, you should be fine.  Just keep yourself calm.  Let us know how you make out.    Eldy

I had to start taking blood pressure medication and had to have an extra follow-up visit or two with the cardiologist prior to surgery, but was still cleared for the surgery.  I was worried too, but needlessly!  I did not have the nuclear medicine one with the dye, I had the ultrasound.  I'm a year out from surgery and off all medication!  Good luck and try not to worry too much!  Most of us have some complications from being obese, that's why we're having the surgery!

I did not have the die either.  They did the ultrasound on me too.  That was after the treadmil and on the table.  Painless.  And its true, we all have some medical problems being obese.  That will all be better after the surgery.  Good luck!  Let us know how you make out!   Eldy
