Hi Chris!

It's always nice to see you at the meetings! Especially when your wifey comes too! She's such a wonderful, supportive lady. I'm glad you have her right by your side. You're a very lucky man!

When I was waiting for my surgery, I evaluated my kitchen. I literally went through the whole thing with my future eating habits in mind.....

I got rid of all snacks (yes, pre-operatively)

Stocked up with protein, low-fat/fat free soups, fat-free plain yogurt, sugar free popsicles, crystal ligh****er & broths (beef, chicken & clam). Sounds like you're already doing this.

I read a lot about post-op eating and post-op living. I already knew how to anticipate the surgery. I wanted to know what to expect after that.

I went to ALL the area support groups and met a lot of people.

I found a WLS Angel (I miss the days we use to spend together pre-op). Someone I could call upon any time. Who I looked up to and admired. Someone who had what I wanted (inside) and who could teach me how to get it myself (thank you Laura).

As you are, I was in a lot of pain prior to surgery so getting up and moving about was very difficult and depressing. So I surrounded myself with family and friends who supported me.

I talked and talked and talked about the surgery to my husband. Every time I learned something new, he wanted to know too! I thought he would get sick of it. But he didn't and still wants to learn more with me! It sounds like your wife is the same way.

There's a meeting at Roger Williams Medical Center tomorrow night. Time: 6-7:30. In the Kay auditorium. Just follow the signs from the main entrance. A lot of us who were there last night will be there tomorrow night. Bring wifey too, k?

See you soon!

Jules

Chris ~ Hello there!  It was so nice to see you and meet your wife last night.  Good thinking that you're giving yourself the time to prepare and get things already before you date.  Julie gave you great info.  Dr. Sax's office staff will be providing you with a shopping list.  Have to say this was helpful to me.  It really gave some great ideas to stock up on, both for the kitchen and additional items.
Before my surgery, tried to get into a walking routine.  Wanted to get my body back in that mode of moving.  Know you said your knee is hurting, wonder if the idea we spoke of before to head to the pool might help.
For your mind, keep up the support groups.  Keep visiting the RI forum and the main forum here on OH.  Reading helped me, everything from cookbooks to books like Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies and the Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery.  Keep asking questions and seeking information.  Lots of great people out here for support.
