Help!!!! My hair is getting so thin..

Hey there, They say that you will lose some hair with the RNY. And it will come back. But to minimize the hair loss you need to make sure you take your vitamins and make sure you are getting in all the protein. I also take Biotin supplement everyday. It is supposed to help too. Good luck and see a good hairstylist that may be able to maximise your hair by style. I hope this helps. Eldy
The recommendation from the Dr. Sax and Dr. V crew is to add zinc and biotin to your supplement/vitamin routine. These won't stop the loss, but will help strengthen the regrowth. The other thing which can help is making sure you staying true to your protein needs.
Also, in one my of recent classes there was information about selenium aiding those who have thinning hair relating to stress. Wondering if it'd be a good addition to the routine. Was going to ask for information at tonight's Miriam support group.

First, the loss is completely normal and WILL happen but YOU WILL NOT GO BALD. As others have said, make sure you're taking your vitamins and try to make sure you get your protein in but dont panic. I lost about 1/2 of my hair and it started growing back in at a little after a year out. Your body has just been through a major surgery and the hair loss is because your body has had a major shock.
Chances are you will be the only one to notice the loss, so dont worry too much and I promise, it will come back.
I am taking in all my recommended vitamins. Is there something I'm missing?

Yup! It's normal! Yup! It comes back!
I started really losing mine around 4 months out so I had a perm to make it look thicker! And I've always taken all my vitamins and protein! It just happens!
I'm 9 1/2 months out and have started noticing new growth!
I just want to address your vitamin regiment:
Vitamin B-12
Please be sure to take vitamin B-12 sublinguals! It's so very important. It's the one vitamin that you can NEVER bounce back from if you become deficient of it!
Although the B-Complex has B-12 in it, our bodies can NOT absorb it because we do not have the 'intrinsic factor' that our former stomach produced in order to absorb this.
Key uses of vitamin B-12:
*Functions in creating nerve coverings, called myelin sheaths
*Supports your growth, appetite and red blood cell production
*Clinicians use vitamin B-12, often as injections, for a wide range of problems that affect your energy level, weight and nervous system.
*May be indirectly important in the production of neurotransmitters in your brain, such as dopamine and serotonin. These affet your moods, sleep patterns and many other psychological functions.
*Vitamin B-12 deficiency is called pernicious anemia, characterized by low red blood cell count, fatigue and neurological problems (such as dementia & alzheimers).
There is some argument as to how much vitamin B-12 a person should take. Some say 500 micrograms per day; some say 500 micrograms per week. Some say even more!
So how much is too much? It's virtually impossible to have an overdose of vitamin B-12. It's water soluble. Therefore, excess gets excreted through our urine.
My thought is, and it's worked for me thus far, 1,000 mcg per day! My levels have been in the high/middle of normal since my first blood work.
CALCIUM:
Should NOT be taken the same time as your multi-vitamin. It should be taken at least 2 hours prior to or after taking any supplement that has iron. Basically, Iron and Calcium cancel each other out.
It's okay to take all your multi-vitamin at once in the morning then split your Calcium through-out the day (Remember that only up to 500-600mgs at a time can be absorbed)
