Information Overload!
There is TONS of information online about WLS and the "best" eating program to follow post-op. So my question is - how on earth do you know what/who to believe?! As a bariatric patient, do you subscribe to the school of thought that you should never, ever have sugar or carbs again? Or do you believe that everything is ok in moderation? And if you are a long term success - what is your best advice for me as a pre-op on the "key points" to remember in all the "mumbo jumbo" out there?
Thanks!!

I suggest following your nutrionists guideline religiously and if you have questions ask them, because everyone you talk to has so many different opinions. Also I have found that a lot of times it's a your mileage may vary type of thing. My nutrionist suggests fruit at mealtimes and I just can't eat it, it makes me sick, as does any type of bread or pasta so I stay away from that stuff and pretty much just concentrate on protein and veggies and my protein shakes.
Good Luck!

Hey Liza! I know things can really sound confusing. I have been told that after awhile you'll be able to eat just about everything in a really small portion (which will fill you up). But you have to remember that there is always the "dumping syndrome" to consider. That scares me. But I was reading a book by this woman who had surgery and she would go out to eat and all, but she ordered things that were WLS friendly and watched her portions. So, I think you can basically live a normal life. Just a thin person's normal life, not an obese person's. You know what I mean? And everyone is different at what they can tolerate and what they can't. Trial and error, I guess. But its worth it! Don't let it get to you. You will find your own path along the way. Eldy
