Hi,

I have a few questions that I hope someone could answer.

after the procedure how long do you stay in the hospital

how long before one is up and about

how soon after the procedure do you need to go to see the Dr.

If anyone would like to tell me exactly what happens just before and after the procedure It would be greatly appreciated

My husband and I are trying to figure out how exactly we are going to go about this whole thing and these are some of the questions.

I was in the Hosp for 2 nights.

They had me walk in the recovery room, barely awake! and then walking by myself a few hours later.

Lots and lots (at least it felt that way) of appts pre surgery.
Before the surgery you are taken in the pre op and IV started, meds to help decrease anxiety given, papers to be signed, change into a johnny.......

After, like I said I was woken up in recovery and told I had to walk before going to my room. Ambulated with the nurses then taken to my room. I had a catheter, naso gastric tube and JP drain (all put in in the OR and after I was asleep). I also had a pump for IV pain meds and IV fluids. The catheter, NG tube and IV pain meds were discontinued after the first day.
I had to eat purreed food before I could leave the next day.

Which WLS procedure are you considering?  The answers to your questions will be different based upon the procedure.

I want to have the bypass surgery. My husband and I were just wondering how long the hospital stay was after the surgery, then once you get home how long before you can get back to doing every day things..

Just curious about after the surgery.

Thanks

Have you attended a seminar or support group session?  Great place to get all the info and if you goto the seminar you will get a packet with all the tests, pre-op & post-op info, diet info and so forth.

For my band I spent 1 night in the hospital, for my bypass I spent 3 nights.  Had to go through all the tests for both of them (except the gallbladder test on my bypass since it was already gone).

With the band I took a week out of work, with my bypass I took almost 3 weeks out.  Some people take 4 - 6 weeks out, everyone is different.
