I just got the call from Dr. Pohl's office saying that  my insurance approval came in and my file is being given to him to give clearance for the next appointment.  Of course he is out of town so who knows how long the wait will be but at least I am on the homestretch.  VERY exciting.  In the meantime, I have been on the Medifast program and have lost 26 pounds so far in a little over a month.  Has anyone else done this program prior to surgery?  The weight comes off very fast but I feel I need to continue this WLS journey as I have lost weight so many times to only gain it back....you all know the drill!  Everyone has an opinion, though!  "Why would you have surgery if this is working?? You should just wait and see what happens."  Just wondering if anyone else has done this program and how the weight loss changed after surgery.  Thanks!!!

Congrats on getting the approval!!   Ummmmmm liquid diet before surgery...yeah I did it!  I was on Optifast and had success with it.  AND yes I got the same questiosn as you did "Why would you have surgery if this is working??" "You should just continue with this program." The answer I gave them is I did this to get myself in the best shape possible to have surgery and that the surgery is the tool that will help me keep it off for life...  Also if you are/were on all liquid like I did for a few months...it isn't reality...no one can maintain all liquid for life! I was afraid if I postponed my surgery and tried to go back to a way of eating on my own and knowing my old habits...eventually the weight would come back on and I would have to get all new testing for my surgeon...no thanks! I was determined to have this surgery.

I think I may still hold the record as longest pre-op that went to meeetings..ha  Feel free to PM me with any questions that you may have...and best of luck!

So you know EXACTLY what I am talking about with all the comments!!  It is so frustrating.  You don't get to be 100+ pounds overweight unless you have a completely disfunctional relationship with food.  Everyone thinks they know what is right for other people.  I like your response though!

Medifast isn't all liquids, there are 5 meal replacements (shakes, bars, oatmeal, soup, pudding, cappucino, scrambled eggs) and one "lean and green" meal a day.  It is a bit pricey too, about $300/month for food.  I wonder if Dr. Pohl will allow me to continue with this rather than the liquid diet that he typically requires.

Once you stopped the optifast when you had surgery, did your weightloss slow down?  I am having the lapband so it may be a little different for me but I am curious if I will be disappointed because I was more successful with medifast.  Thanks for taking the time to respond!

The good news is that I got the phone call today to get my second appointment.  The bad news is that it isn't until April 13th.    :(  So unfortunately I think I am still a few months out.  Luckily, I have lost 28 pounds so far so I guess I should focus on the goal and be content with where I am right now.  Thanks for all of your words of wisdom and inspirations.  I have quickly become an OH addict checking the message boards daily!!  Hey, at least it keeps me from eating, right??  LOL
