Question about liquid diet?

Hi everyone,

I'm starting my liquid diet on Tuesday, March 10th. I was wondering if anyone would like to share stories of their experiences with the liquid diet. I'm nervous that I'm going to have a tough time doing it. I mean, if I could eat that little, then I wouldn't be in this position to begin with! Has anyone else struggled? I would appreciate any and all stories about the pre-surgery liquid diet, good or bad! Thanks so much!

Hi Robyn!   You will probably gets lots of suggestions here on this question.   I like to get my shakes from Target.  They are called Body Fortress.  It comes in a BIG container ($14.00).  You get 52 grams of protein for 2 scoops of whey protein ( I use 1 scoop and get 26 grams- still alot).  Comes in chocolate and vanilla.  I will take the chocolate and put 6 oz of water in a blender, 1  scoop of protein, add ice.  Blend until thick. Makes about 16oz.  I sip and enjoy.  You can add whatever to it. The vanilla, I will add a banana to it or if i am out, banana extract! Dr. Pohl had ok'd it for my pre-op liquid diet.  I still drink it.  I have 3 of those a day and get 78 grams of protein in my system.  Then i sip sip sip on water (sometimes flavored with sugar free flavors).  When you count how much fluid intake, you include the shakes too.  I get about 85 oz of fluid in a day.  There are so many other choices too.  You will see!  Good luck!  Eldy

Hi Robyn!

I remember feeling the same way. The first couple days were the worst. As soon as I realized that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it wasn't going to last forever, I felt better and did better with the diet.

I drank fluids all day long to keep me full. At dinner, when I could have a sensible dinner, I measured the recommended serving sizes for my meat & veggies. I practiced the post-surgery eating habits. I ate with a small fork, off a small plate. I ate my protein first, then my veggies.

I made sure there were NO foods in my house that would cause me to cheat. I had a lot of support by my family on this. That really helped.

I focused on finding protein shake products, vitamins & minerals, going to support group meetings, talking with my WLS Angel, reading, reading and more reading about my weightloss surgery journey.

We're having an OH get-together on Saturday! Can you come? You'll meet lots of people and get lots of ideas!

Also, there's a support group meeting tonight at Rhode Island Hospital, Gerry House, 6:15 pm (parking located in B lot).

Maybe I'll see you there!
