I just got a call from Dr Sax office. I flunked my psyche eval!!!!! They recommend I see the therapist a few more times because of my "emotional" eating. I have an appt Thurs but I'm so afraid this is going to set me back. I really want this so I'm doing everything they recommend. I'm even going to look for a "sponsor" like I'm following a 12-step program so I have someone to call if I feel like I'm gonna cheat. I've even started to try to eat like I'm post-op (naturally I'm eating more) but doing protein veggies and good carbs. I also started walking.............Anyway, I'm sad, not mad.~~~~~~~~Kim

Hi Kim!
Ok...first I have to tell you..when I read the subject of your post, the first thing that popped into my mind was "arent we all?" I even said it out loud to myself!
Now on to your psych eval, this is VERY common with pre-op, But dont let it get you down. I think most of us have issues with emotional eating. What you really want to think about is any help you can get with preventing it now, will only help you succeed after surgery and thats a really good thing. They will probably have you attend a few group sessions with others who are considered emotional eaters and it might delay you a little but you'll get there and you might be all the better for it!
Just remember you have a great support structure here on the board and if there is ANYTHING i can do always feel free to contact me.

Hi Kim,

Sorry to hear about your results. If you're going by a step-program...the first step is to admit that you're powerless over food! And you have already taken that step,,,which is,,,by far,,,the hardest step to take.

In OH world, we have what's called Angels. Angels are rather like sponsors. I have an Angel and I am an Angel to two beautiful women. It has helped to be on both ends of the spectrum. I don't know what I would do without these wonderful women (sisters) in my life now.

I highly recommend you find and Angel for yourself. Someone you respect who will put their foot down and be honest with you when you need it most. Someone you are comfortable with enough to share almost anything. Someone you see yourself being friends with for a very long time (even a lifetime).

Are you comfortable with the therapist you saw? If not, switch to someone you ARE comfortable with. Maybe it's not such a bad idea to plan on continuing with this person well after your surgery too.

Emotional eating is only a symptom of other things that can be bothering you. Having the surgery isn't a cure-all. It helps to have someone to talk to...your Angel and a good therapist is certainly an asset before AND after surgery.

Any time you need to talk, my number is listed under the meeting information.

Please for the sake of your success do not take this as a negative thing!! I am 8 months out and in the 1st 6 months I lost 86lbs. I have not lost a pound in the last 8 weeks in fact I gained a few. I am sooo afraid to admit it but it is emotional eating!! i never thought in a million years that was what I was doing. I thought I just love fooD(still do)!! Part of me wishes I had found this out before and did something about it. Now I am embarrsed and am afraid to admit I have a problem still.  Take a few deep breaths and think of you future after surgury because it is still right around  the corner.....

Weight loss since surgury 6/26/08-I Love my Realize band!!

Thank you all for your support. I will definitely be contacting you with other issues. I know I can't do this myself and I'm willing to do anything to get better-physically and mentally. I see him on Thursday . I'll let you know how I make out. I'm also gonna look for an angel (or 2) Thanks everyone~~~~~~~I feel alot better. As a matter of fact I'm laughing about it too!!!

Love you all, KIm

Kim ~ Hello.  Great to read you're doing your best to frame this is the most positive light possible.  Sounds like you're headed in the right direction to keep this process in motion -- change in eating patterns, walking, etc.  Are you going to stick with the therapist who did your evaluation or are you going to be meeting with someone else?  Come to the support groups, keep coming here to post -- know there's support all around you.  Please let me know if there's anything I can do.
~ Sandy
