Baby Steps......

I feel like I have reached a milestone in this process! Dr. G's office FINALLY has all my pre-op paperwork and reports that they need AND an insurance approval (woo hoo!!) and my chart is now officially in her mailbox for review!! Hopefully she will review it either next Monday or Wednesday and will tell the office I am cleared to come back for my 2nd appt with her, which will then (hopefully) produce my surgery date!!!

I am psyched that I have officially completed the pre-op process. The only thing that might come up after her review of my chart is a second sleep study which I mentioned earlier this week, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

I am still feeling really good about all of this right now! Woo hoo!!!

That is great news!!  I'm glad that everything is finally coming together!  If I may give you a piece of advice...if they don't give you a date when you see her the 2nd time(they didnt with me) be persistant in calling them back to get your date!!  I don't think I am alone when I say CALL THEM  CALL THEM after everything is in and you are approved for surgery!  They are very busy and with all the patients, just need a reminder...trust me when I say this to you!

I totally get where you are coming from Rob!! I had to call them 4-5 times just this week alone to make sure they got all the paperwork. I felt like that poor woman was going to scream LEAVE ME ALONE ALREADY when I called her for literally the 3rd or 4th time JUST TODAY but she was actually pretty nice about it. Trust me, I've already learned I need to be persistent and I intend to continue!!

Great advice though!

BTW, how long after your 2nd appt did it take to get to surgery? I'm just curious how long the wait is once she says you are ready......

Thanks!!!

I had my 2nd appt with Dr G....waited a week maybe...then called and called and called, you have to have a thick skin and think about yourself...well within 48 hrs they got back to me with a date.  The wait was about a month and a half till surgery after they called me back....not sure how busy they are now though.

Another piece of advice I can give...take your own shakes to the hospital...I took the Proti shakes from the office.  On Day 2 remind the nurses that you want YOUR shakes NOT theirs..trust me you will thank me...my roomie John in the hospital did. I brought enough for me and him and he was grateful I did.  Just my .02

Again, awesome advice Rob - thank you!! Bringing my own shakes to the hospital I never would have thought of but sounds like a great idea!

Thank you so much!!!

Wow, you are doing awesome.  Your gonna have this surgery before you know it.  I had an appointment with Dr. G at the beginning of January.  Unfortunately, I waited until then to tell her that i decided to get the bypass instead of the band.  So they had to resubmit my info to the insurance company and get approval for THAT surgery.  Who knew? But it seems that generally after your appointment, your date is a month away.  That gives you about 2 weeks to prepare for your pre-op diet which you start 2 weeks before the surgery ( the same day you go to your PAT (pre admission testing).  Hopefully that helps you kinda get the timeline.  Good luck to you.  I can't believe your so close already.  I know it seems like its been a long road, but its over before you know it.  Take care and keep me posted.    Eldy
