I've been looking around a researching alot of different procedures.

#1 question...where did you start in refernce to doctors? Was it your GP or a specialist or did you go directly to a surgeon to find out about pre testing and answering any questions.

#2. HAs anyone had the procedure that is called Duodenal Switch? If yes, are you satisfied with the results and which sugeon did you use?

Thanks so much for any info that you can provide.

Hi Tiffany,

I started the process with my PCP, I talked to him about the surgery and he was fully behind me and told me about Dr Pohl and Dr Giovanni. From there I researched the different Drs in the area and attending Dr Pohl and Giovannis seminar. After I met Dr Pohl, I made up my mind that he was the surgeon for me! At his seminar, I got a list of all the pre-op testing and my PCP helped me to schedule everything (I'd already been scheduled for the sleep test through my PCP since he knew it would be required.)

As for the DS, I dont know of anyone local whos had it. Hopefully you'll be able to find someone to answer your questions, but I do know a lot of insurance companies wont cover it, so if its a definate option for you, you might want to check with your insurance to be sure they will cover it.

Best of Luck!!

Hi Tifftany!

I started with my Primary Care doctor. He is actually the one that brought the procedure up with me when I went to him with my weight struggles. He did say he felt it was a "last resort" kind of thing so it's not like he was pushing me towards it, just mentioning it as an option. After that I thought a lot about it and went back to him and told him I wanted to move forward with pursuing the surgery. He was the one *****commended Dr. Pohl & Dr. Giovanni to me and gave me a referral. I ended up with Dr. Giovanni after I went to their seminar just out of personal preference.

I would say either ask your PC doc or ask people in a forum like this who have used different doctors if they liked theirs and if they would recommend that person to someone. You can even go to the seminars of a couple of different docs and see if you find yourself more comfortable with one over the other.

I haven't had my procedure yet, but I can tell you that I am very happy with Dr. Giovanni so far and would definitely recommend looking into her practice.

Take care,

Liza

Tiffany:

I started with my PCP.  She was 110% supportive, and referred me to Dr.'s Roye and Ryder.

My PCP recommended Dr Roye to me as well.  Dr Roye is also starting with doing seminars, so you can meet them as well at the seminars.  Dr Roye is my Dr and I really like him.  It's all with who you feel comfortable with.
Good luck in your journey
