Has more pre-op appts today - a little upset
So I took the day off from work today and had 3 appts. I had my 2 visits with the psychiatriats and my 2nd visit with the nutritionist. The psych visits went fine and I am now psych cleared for surgery. Woo hoo! Now I have had my gallblatter u/s done, my endoscopy done and normal, cleared by psych and the last thing is my 3rd visit with the nutritionist next week and then I am done with all the pre-op stuff I had to do.
The only thing is this: if I am being 100% honest I will say that I have not been watching what I eat lately. I figured that the next couple of weeks was basically my last "hurrah" since once I get to 2 weeks before surgery I need to go on a liquid diet before, and then the appropriate stages of diet afterwards. So basically, I was thinking I might as well live it up now before that since this is the last time I will be eating this way.
Anyway, I went to the nutritionist today and I had gained weight (5lbs) from the last time I was there. No surprise to me because of how I have been eating. However, she told me that Dr. Giovanni wants to see you lose weight prior to the surgery and if she doesn't see a consistent weight loss for a good few weeks before surgery, she might even put off the surgery as long as 3 months.
Honestly, this may sound stupid, but I didn't know I was supposed to be losing right now! No one told me that at any of my appointments!!
So I am upset now, wondering if Dr. G is going to say she won't do my surgery right away when I get in to see her. I do have at least 2 weeks, if not more depending on how long it takes to get an appt with her after my last pre-op next week, so I am going to try to lose between now and then, but I'm worried now that it won't be enough and she won't give me a date!
Has anyone else been in the situation where you didn't lose prior to surgery? And how did the doctor handle it?
Thanks!!!
Liza

Liza,
I think everyone does that last hurrah. I know I did I too gain when I saw Dr. Phol the 1st time I was 323 and when I went back the 2nd time I had went to 345 I told him I was eating like I would never get to eat again. I did however loose 24lbs on the 2 week fast. If you tell your doctor what you just told all of us I think she will get it and you should be fine. GOOD LUCK.

Liza, don't fret. I did the same thing. When I saw Dr. Giovanni for the last appt., I had gained 8 lbs since I last saw her. The reason she wants you to lose weight is 1) to see that you are serious about this. and 2) to reduce the fat on your liver to make more room for her and an easier surgery for you. That said, I felt I needed a "last harrah" too. My "last" Mexican meal, my "last"chinese meal, never did get my "last" doughboys from Iggys. But you know what? Its not your "last" anything. There will be a decent delay, but you will again be able to eat normal food again, be able to go out to dinner again. You just will not eat the amount you did before. So once you get past the "last harrah" thinking, it makes it alot easier to follow the plan. I am still having surgery Tusday and I have lost 10 pounds since I started the pre-op diet. Relax and just do what you have to do now. All we be good! Good luck! Eldy
Thank you Eldy! It helps a lot to hear from you since you had the same doctor. I am going to relax now after hearing from you. I do have around 2 weeks at minimum until I go back to Dr. G so I am going to try and lose between now and then and maybe show at least some progress. It helps to know she didn't delay your surgery even though you gained. THANK YOU and good luck tomorrow!!! Check in when you can, I will be thinking of you!!!!

LIza,
I am in the same boat as you, I also have Dr. G and saw her last Thursday (my 2nd appointment) and gained weight. I am now trying to get my surgery date but to be honest with you I am not having luck with the office help... my appointment was last Wednesday and of course the girl who does the booking was gone, so the Dr. said the office would call Thursday with a date, it is now Sunday and I will be calling the office again tomorrow to get a surgery date... Hang in there, I dont believe they hold weight gain against you, you are going to loose either way on the 2 week liquid prep.
