Sleep Study - did I sleep enough?
Hi all!
So, I went for my first sleep study last night -- over to East Providence (and, yes, it was cold!). I think I would have rather had my fingernails pulled out one by one!! Don't get me wrong -- the staff was great and the place was clean and tidy. I think I suffered from performance anxiety (I can never sleep in hotels, by the way) compounded by a rock hard mattress that hit every single pressure point in my body. I'm usually asleep by 8:30 pm and awake by 4:30 or 5 am 6 days out of 7 (confirmed by my sleep journal I gave them). I didn't fall asleep until 12:30 am (and I did take 50 mg of Benadryl, which should have knocked me out). I believe I slept for an hour, and then maybe dozed off and on (probably more off than on****il 5:15 when she woke me up.
My immediate question, if anyone knows, is will they have anough data to (hopefully) tell me I don't have sleep apnea and don't have to go back?
My other questions would by if anyone knows if nasal congestion from the tail end of a cold that I've had will affect the results, and if anyone's ever had to re-do a test because they couldn't sleep enough, how was it done so you could sleep enough?
Any other thoughts would also be appreciated.

I would think the tech would have warned you that they might not have enough data when she spoke to you this morning if they didn't get enough. The cold may have influenced the reading - I know I become a mouth breather when my sinus' are stuffy. The PA I went to at the sleep doctor's office was so great with all this stuff... she had me go on a nasal spray for about two weeks before my test and also gave me ambien so I could sleep while at the study. She actually gave me 2 ambien because I've never taken it before and she wanted me to try it at home where I was comfortable before I tried it there.
Good luck on the results!

Good point -- she didn't say anything about not having enough data.
I didn't even think of mentionning that I typically get stuffed up at night (even without a cold) when I saw the NP a couple of weeks ago. Rats!
Thanks. I hopefully will know the results Wednesday (or so they told me when they called to confirm this appointment).

So, good news is I got the results a day early.
Bad news is I flunked. I only slept for 2 hours, and they were unable to draw adequate conclusions. I have to go back for another night, half to repeat what I did, and the other half w/ a machine. And, some Ambien.
I'm pulling my finger and toe nails out!

I did just pick up 2 Ambien at the pharmacy (at $3.50 each!). One is to try at home (tonight will be the night), and the other for Monday, when I repeat the study. Actually, Monday night is supposed to be a split study -- half the night to repeat what I couldn't do, and the other half to use the CPAP machine. If they can't get enough data after that night, then I'll have to ponder my options. At least, though, I can say I gave it the ole college try.
Thanks again for your thoughts!
