I am having surgery 2/10 and want to know if  when I get home can I go up and down stairs?  I heard I shouldn't and if I do to go up them backwards...is this true? LOL...I live on the 3rd floor...that would take me a chunk of time then! Thanks

Hi Ashley!

Wow! Only two days away!

I would think that there are a good percentage of us who don't live in a single floor home. Therefore, I would think it's okay to go up your stairs after surgery to get into your home!

That said....Go S-L-O-W-L-Y! Not backwards! That's too unatural for us to do and (I would think) cause you to be disoriented and therefore, more prone to injury. Especially because you'll be on pain medications.

Make sure you have someone with you and a good banister to hold on to.

Ask Dr. G. to see what she thinks. But I would think it'll be okay as long as you're not going up and down stairs several times a day while you're on pain meds.

You should be able to make up and down without to much trouble.  Walking is good for you. Good Luck.

Ashley - I live in a raised ranch - so had to use the stairs from the day I got home.  I just took them very slow and didn't go up and down them all day.

Best of luck Tomorrow!!!
