I must be crazy .... hubby convinced me to get a bike
Hi all.
Well my hubby convinced me to buy a bike, so last night I got a 21-speed mountain bike. He wants to do the bike path & canal ride starting this spring. Let me just tell ya ....... my fat butt has not been on a bike in about 20 years. He wants this thin metal contraption with two thin rubber wheels to balance me
So today we are going to buy the indoor training stand so I can ride the bike at home everyday (more exercise) and be ready to do a 10 - 15 mile ride come the spring. Maybe he needs to take a look at a picture of me, or be there when I weigh in. He seems to think I can do this, I'm not so sure but for him I will try my hardest.
I may need to get some phone numbers from my OH friends living near the bike path, this way when I collapse someone can come get me. Oh yeah, please bring a Del's lemonade with you .... I think that could help ..... although I will suffer for it later.

Hey Sue,
How Cool! What great exercise! And outdoor fun!
There are several 'bucket-type' seats out there you can try on your bike. What brand is the bike? Schwinn sells a very comfy gel, wide seat that fits most, if not all, of their geared bikes.
I'll have a new bike come spring. It'll probably be a cruiser though (3 speeds at the most). So, if you're planning on riding the Slater Park bike path, maybe we can get together!
You've got my number! As for the Del's Lemonade, unless there's a sugar free, you're gittin' water with lemonade Crystal Light! LOL
Love ya!
Jules

Sounds like a plan to me.
My bike is a Quest Realto and we got it at Dicks Sports for $139 on clearance. Then the training stand so I can ride inside the house was another $100. Oh well, if it is exercise and helps me get to my goal then lets see how muscular I can get these calfs of mine.
As for the Crystal Light, can I at least get it over ice with a lime wedge? Maybe if I just put a Del's sticker on my water bottle I can try and pretend its just melted down.

Ok, I'll bring the lime!

That's wonderful ! You will get to like it so much.
I started bicycling years ago. At that time I hadn't ridden a bike in about 20 years. Just like you. At first i could only make it a few blocks and then i huffed and puffed my way back home. But within a year I was riding all over the county!
my favorite thing to do on Saturday was to pack a simple lunch of a piece of fruit and a turkey sandwich and a drink. Put it on the bike rack and then take off for a little 'adventure'.
I'd stopped along the way and watch the creek or sit on the side of a hill overlooking the ocean and watch the boats go by. I'd stop at an open air fruit stand and buy some fruit, or stop at a street cafe and have a cup of tea at a table outside. I'd stop and pick a flower and put it in my hair, etc. etc. I took off for parts unknown with no direction in mind and just let things unfold as they may.
There is so much that one notices when you travel about like that. The fragrant smell of the air, the birds singing, the warmth of the sunshine, the beautiful scenery.
Boy. i haven't done that in a long time now, but after writing this i think i may take it up again.
